Havnt seen that before. The issue with mine is the Hinges. The pin is starting to wollow out the hole, causing it to make noise and thump. Those look decent for helping strengthen where the tire attatches to the tailgate. I still believe eventually the hinges/pins will fail.

Do you think that's from opening and closing the tailgate, or just from hanging on there closed? I've heard others have problems with the welds on the inside of the tailgate cracking from stress.

I know this topic has been beat like a dead horse, but just trying to find solutions for more hang time before buying a tire carrier.

Might try what I've done to relieve the weight OFF the tail gate

33" Hankook

Adjustable round head 5/8 bolt thru bumper, supports the entire weight !!

Looks good JIMBOX!

I would think that even if you reinforced the tailgate, used Daystar extended bump stops, and supported the tire with the bumper, your still going to have problems when you open and close it.

Even if you supported the weight with your body when you open it, how much of that 150lb setup are you really relieving?

My tire and alloy wheel weigh less than 80lbs !!

I don't think it would work with a 35" tire and heavier wheel, but mine is adequate !!

The main strain to the hinges, is from ops vibration and DOWN FORCE from "bumps/ruts/potholes", so good bumpstops and my bumper support will work, unless you gofor a swingaway carrier, I've had those on previous 4x4's and they're great--didn't want one on my Rubi !!

Good luck

Yeah I'm running 35s. The spare is just under 100 and I'm guessing the tailgate is 50ish. Just so hard to save for the carrier when I could put that money towards a winch

I don't know how long that tailgate will hold, you gotta keep an eye oniy !!

Your safety and (those behind you), is more important than the winch--CREDIT CARD !!

Bump. I just installed some new wheels and 33" tires this weekend, and this kit caught my eye on quadratec. Same question as the OP: anyone have any experience with it? Thoughts?
