Hey guys, so I just got a new jeep, and just out of curiosity I wanted to know how long do Off-road tires last? If you search in the Internet you can see many pages, but they all talk about regular tires. None talk about Off-road, do they have a mile maximum or year maximum?

There will be a pretty wide range in tire life depending on what tires you run. If you want a set of Pitbull Rockers for your street rig, you'll probably be buying tires every 15-20K miles.

My Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain tires, when rotated every 5,000 miles, should last 50,000 miles. At least the ones on my cousins F150 did. I have 18,000 miles on them now and they barely show any wear. But again, it will be a case by case basis.

Mud terrain this have thicker rubber on the outside then street tires. They have to be rotated more often at every 5k miles or so.

If they are maintained and not abused offroad they should last longer then a comparable street tire due to thicker tread pattern if only used on the road.

If you use them offroad then you'll replace them sooner since you want the really thick tread pattern for traction in the trail and in the rocks. They will be on road legal far after they lose their traction in extreme conditions.

That being said, if you never go offroad use street tires. They are cheaper and behave better on the freeway.

That's not entirely true. Most mud tires have a softer composite than your street tires or even all terrain tires so naturally they will wear quicker than streets.
That being said I have 50,000 on my mudd right now and will make the summer and another 10k with these.

I have duratracs and though there at and not my im at about 12000 miles and plenty of tred left, I'd guess I'm gonna get about 30-35 out of them but I also mostly go offroad on the beach so there not realy getting beat on.

I have 9 x Goodyear G90 7.50R x16 arriving tomorrow.......5 for my 2012 Wrangler sport and the rest for my Pinzgauer.......the previous set on the Pinz have been on for 7 years.....still not worn out......Jeep will be using them as winter tyres....I will post pics....they give me more than an inch extra ground clearance over the standard road tyres.

Any rubber tire over 8 years old will be near the end of its life, regardless of tread depth.

Off Road Tires rarely have a mileage rating. And will not last near as long as passenger tires or P-Metric tires rated as being high milers. The more aggressive the tread usually the shorter the life. My BFG ATs lasted forever. My BFG MTs.. I can see the difference every day.

Realistically? My experience? I'd say most Off Road tires, MTS etc will deliver about 70% the mileage of a good AT or P-Metric tire. And truly aggressive tires like Boggers will wear out much quicker. Alto my Boggers were on an F250.

You guys are going to think "Whoa!! crazy Englishman!!! when I post pics of my Wrangler (it,s the wife's really) with 7.50R x 16 Goodyear G90s. They will be arriving later today, and I will have to tell you a story so you understand why! This part of Poland has some of the poorest soil I have seen, it is a sandy clay....in winter it is slick and will leave a blue stain on your tyres when it dries.....in summer it becomes a talcum powder that get's in everywhere and coats everything. I brought a Unimog with me on brand new Michelin XZL.....it looked pretty stupid just sat there in two inches of mud with difflocks in and all four wheels just spinning!!! I have to put some Michelin Agri Chevrons on to get traction....then my Pinz arrived on Goodyear G90s and they are superb in this clay...aggressive enough to bite and with good road manners. So why don't I go all big tyres like you guys? because for this horrible clay you need a thin tyre that bites down to the dry stuff and grips.....there is a guy round here imported his Dodge Ram from the states.....he can't use it on any of the tracks when there is even a little rain, his big and wide tyres almost instantly become slicks...just like the XZLs on my Unimog. Don't have a pic of a G90 on my Jeep yet but this is a G90 on a Polish Army Tarpan Honker They are also used on British Army Landrover Defenders in the heavier applications. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/46/Tarpan_Honker_-_wersja_saperska.JPG

If the dodge had a good set of mud terrain tires like the MT/R, then they wouldn't get caked and be slicks, they would clear the tread and sling that mud 20ft into the air.

The factory Rubicon tires should be good for 40,000 miles at the very most.

My buddy has had his 315 ProComps for 60,000 miles and they are now in need of replacing.

FWIW, I have 35" General Grabbers on my JKR, at 13,000 miles; they look brand new. Their "unofficial" life is of 60,000 miles.
