Quote from t.j.k.: My parents had no problem dropping 15K on a car for me when I turned 16 therefore I thought that it was "relatively" cheap since my parents would by it for me.

Lucky you!! When I was 16 I told my parents to get me a Jeep and they show up with a 5yr old ford escort

This is why the idea of buying a car for a youngster is relative. There are so many different kinds of people out there that there are lots of reasons for why they purchase a certain type of car even for youth. Some youth get everything they want and then some. Others barely have someplace warm to stay and food to eat. Both ends of the financial rainbow. And everywhere in between. The problem for some people who live near the poor end of the rainbow, they can't fathom what it is like at the other end. Some are jealous of folks at the upper end. My dad worked 3 jobs and we drove volkswagens because they were cheap to own and operate. I hope this youngster appreciates the gift his parents are about to get him. Maybe it is a pipe dream. Either way, it is fun to suppose. Dreams are what make youth the wonderful years. Especially when they come true. The advice above on the lift sounds reasonable.

gentlemen, this thread is not about WHO is buying the jeep or WHY. the kid wants to know what wheel and tire size to get. since it has been posted in the JK forum and he references the "2 door." it is fair to assume that he is referring to the JK. it is not our decision which jeep he gets or why, so please answer his question and stop bickering about who is buying it.

Man what a funny thread. when I was 16 my parents gave me a 10-year-old 5-speed piece of sh*t

Anyway, 6 inches is a ton of lift. What are you building a competition rig? The amount of money that it requires to run 6 inches of lift on a jeep is astronomical. Not to mention that the whole suspension is going to need redone along with the drive line. The odds are also pretty slim that that thing is going to be streetable at all.

IMHO, not a great idea for someone that has never even driven a vehicle yet. I suggest you stick to the stock 32's and go from there. Most kids can't even keep their little civics under control, let alone a Jeep lifted 6 inches into the sky.

I've been thinking about this post for a while. I certainly agree that this thread is mostly about the what and not the who but the who cannot be wholly ignored. When a 15 year old nearly 16 says I want to lift my jeep 6 inches, the posts informing about the costs may address the what and the advice about the safety factor addresses the who. Sometimes these things are inseparable. My opinion is that a certain amount of caution as advised from some of the wise builders of the jeep here on the forum is well intended and if paid attention to by this young person can lead to wise decisions about what to do with the jeep once he gets it. If his(her) parents ever read the posts, they too will be satisfied that complete strangers have expressed concerns about safety for their loved one. Just something to think about from a parent's perspective.

I hope the youngster continues to pursue his dreams and perhaps can post back here about his progress.
