Oil Change Freq

Okay so the manual says when it is time for an oil change that the vehicle will let me know. I am at 6500 miles and haven't had any indications, what gives?

don't feel bad I am at 14,000 miles and no indicator yet on my 2013. I have however changed oil 4X already and getting ready too again. then I will change every 5000 miles whether it needs it or not.

Mine came on around 7500 miles on my 13. I changed it at 3,000 an then at 8,000. Will change it every 5,000. Just make sure you change it before 10,000 like the owners manual states

My indicator comes on at varying intervals. Depends somewhat on usage. I've noticed it coming on earlier if I have done alot of wheeling, like after long wheeling trips. Think Texas to Moab, wheel there for several days then off to Vegas followed by Pismo Beach and Glammis wheeling, and then back to TX.

If my indicator doesn't come on by 8K, I just go ahead and get it changed because I think that's what the manual calls for.

Oh, another one of these threads! Goody! I love the spectacle!

Bottom line = know your vehicle, know your oil, keep your own counsel.

However, this can be Oil War, Part 653!

I'm at about 6000 on mine and haven't seen the light yet. 5000 is a nice easy number to remember when to change your oil. I've done it that way for years on multiple cars and will continue with the new Jeep.

The manual also says (for the 13s) not to exceed 10, 000 miles between changes.

Thanks for the info, 5,000 sounds like a good number to me. I was just wondering if I had missed something and I don't mind changing it sooner.

NOTE: Under no circumstances should oil change
intervals exceed 8,000 miles (13 000 km) or six months,
whichever occurs first.

5,000

I agree, 5000 is easy to remember. I change my oil and rotate all 5 tires every 5,000 miles.

Same as what everyone else is saying... I don't rely on the reminder. Thankfully the dealer where I bought my Jeep has free oil changes for life. So I take it in every 5k miles.

Amsoil! Amsoil! Amsoil! You are all fools unless you use Amsoil! You can get 10 billion miles between oil changes with Amsoil!!! Dammit! Why aren't you using Amsoil!!!

I don't know what Amsoil is but that is where these threads go usually and I am a conformist. I love these. Give me Amsoil or give me death!!!! Dammit!

These are the most humorous threads!
Oil change time?
Should I wait for the warning monitor?
Does it even need to be changed if the monitor doesn't tell me too change it?
Brand?
Conventional, verses Synthetics?
Viscosity?
And let's not forget the oil filter Brand?
We don't want to forget free oil changes for life.
Will the Dealer do a quality oil change?
I probably missed something.

OP, now to answer your question on a serious note.
Start off by not worrying about the computer.
Use the viscosity oil recommended in your owners manual.
If you use Conventional oil, then change it every 3000 miles.
If you are going with Synthetic oil, then change it every 5000 miles.
Always install a new oil filter at the time of oil change.
If you follow these guidelines, then your engine will like you!

How many quarts does the Pentastar hold? My F-150 holds 7.5 so 5,000 miles between changes is a no brainer.

here is one reason to absolutely trust the oil minder (other then I have 14000 miles and it still has not went off). Same computer probably estimates oil changes as estimates mpg.

I get $19.95 oil change coupons in my email all the time. I change my oil every 3k at the dealership. Drive in, 30 minutes and $22 later (tax) I drive out. Piece o' cake and no mess to clean up.

Go with what you are comfortable with

There is not a right or wrong answer here and you are never going to convince anyone otherwise--The best advice here is go with a maximum of the manufacturers recommendation or where you feel comfortable with--what ever is less. There is all kinds of information on the web saying that you can go to 7500 or 10,000 miles but there are some of us who will never feel good with that because we grew up being told every 3000 miles you need to change the oil. In recent years I have gone with the manufacturers recommendations--7500 plus --but use synthetic oil --and have driven 100,000 plus on all my vehicles with no adverse effects. Bottom line in today's world of long manufacturer warranties providing that you change it at the recommended mileage frequency and you do not void your warranty does it really matter?
