Oil Change Indicator

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. It is 5 1/2 months old and has 7,000 miles on it. The oil change indicator light has yet to come on.

Is this normal?

It's duty cyle, not mileage based. Have you not changed your oil yet?

It could be, as Daggo said. But, you have to change it twice per year regardless of the mileage. And, for a 12, no longer than 8,000 I believe. That is MAX recommended. NOT recommended. I wouldn't let it go that far especially on a new engine. I would do the first oil change no longer than 1,500 miles. That ship has sailed. Read the manual and make your decision. It seems that there are a number of individuals who will only change it when the light comes on. They are mistaken.

Mine comes on at about 2800 miles since last reset. When I asked a dealer, they said that they still program the indicator to come on just based on habit, but some are programmed to come on closer to the 6k, which is when the owners manual recommends. They (the particular dealer I was at) said they could not change this programming. The change oil message comes on when the vehicle is first started and flashes for 10 seconds.

Could be normal depending on your driving habits. But Jeep says if the light hasn't come on within 6 months or 8K miles, change the oil anyway.

Since you haven't changed the oil yet on a new engine, just do it.

Could be depending on your driving habits. Jeep says change the oil when the indicator light comes on unless it hasn't come on and you have reached 6 months or 8K miles, whichever comes first.

7K miles on a new engine is a long time. Change it out now.
