I see a lot of people using Fram. If you look at indendant tests Fram usually ranks very low. There is lots of data out there.

Here is one place that shows a top 5:

I use the original MOPAR filter with Mobil 1 5W-30 Synthetic. I believe it's best to go with OEM when it comes to filters. Some time ago I had a 1984 Ford Bronco with a 302 in it and used FRAM filters. This was before the age of internet expurts and I remember talking with knowledgeable garage/shop owner that the FRAM filters were the worst at time as they paid no attention to the designed pressure drop across the filter the engine manufacturer designed for, which on some engines - like the Ford 302, was way too high and restricting oil flow. Since then, I go with OEM filters on all my vehicles.

As I said. I didn't used to like them. Then a guy on here toured their production facilities and changed my mind.

AH yes, brings back memories. Back in the seventies I use to take diesel oil in a small container with some used oil and spray it along my fence line to kill the weeds that my neighbor never cut. Well after a few skirmishes with her on other issues she called the DEQ on me. They came out in hazardous waste moon suits and all kind of equipment. Looked like they were responding to a radiation spill. The big cheese hazmat guy took me into his fortified bunker rolling ghostbuster truck and said if I ever did it again he was going to fine me $300.00 dollars. Thank goodness it was the seventies because nowadays I would be labeled an enviromental terrorist and would be doing time.

As far as I could find there is nothing available in K&N or Amsoil yet. I listed the Mobil 1 part # earlier.

The P990 is the cartridge type for the 2012's+ (3.6L Pentastar)
The M1102 is the enclosed screw on type for pre 2012's (3.8L)

I called a couple of places and all I seem to be able to find is the Mopar and the Wix. Wix is cheaper, so Wix it is.

Puralator oil filter from Kmart, or Napa gold from Napa.
Puraltor filter is a dollar cheaper at Kmart then Auto Zone.
Mobil one full syn 5w30 from Walmart.

The contractor who installed our new furnace last year whipped out my dirty $15 air filter and gave me a look.

He said, "People do this all the time, they buy the $15 filter at Home Depot and change it out once or twice a winter. The best thing you can do is buy 5 $3k filters and change them once a month during winter."

Isn't that sort of how the oil filter thing should be viewed? Less about brand and more about frequency? I might be wrong but it makes sense to me.

I just change it when I change the oil, that's frequent enough.
