Oil Leak - Returned

Bought my JK 1 year ago and it had a slight oil leak. Drip here, drip there, about a quart between oil changes.

About a month ago I had the rear main seal changed and it fixed it. But before even getting to my next oil change it's returned!

Is this common?

Just crawled under it with a flash light....the oil is everywhere, not like before. Oil pan, transmission dust cover, and everything in the proximity. The highest point I could find is the oil filter....it was on the filter near the seal...so I think that may be where it's coming from. Hopefully its the filter. Since I didn't see oil up that high when it was the seal...I'm praying it's only the filter.

It is not common on the 3.6, but very common on the TJ 4.0 I don't know about the 3.8.

My mechanic said it looks like the top oil pan seal. We'll replace this week and I'll update.

Problably a stupid question but when they changed the oil they did get the old gasket/o-ring off before they put the new one on. Happened to my dads truck is why I ask. He ended up with a new engine on the dealership.
