Ok I have narrowed my search down to these 2 jeeps HELP!!!

A 2007 Wrangler X auto with a soft and hard top and hard doors 61,000 miles good tires 18,999

A 2005 Wrangler Rubi with 6sp soft top and half doors 81,000 miles bald tires 14,500

What would it take o get the X to the rubicon specs.

How much is involved in a 2.5 inch lift on the X

The X is a JK, the Rubi is a TJ. The TJ is the prior generation of Wranglers, whereas the JK is the current generation. They're different in some pretty fundamental ways--the JK is bigger, for example, and expands the role of the onboard computer.

You're not going to mod one of them into the other.

Lifts can be as complicated as you want them to be, but, in general, you can do a 2.5" lift for a JK pretty inexpensively.

i would say the 2007 for sure, but 20k miles per year roughly is a lot of driving.

i'd still go with the 2007 and negotiate him down some

the rubicon sounds like a good buy. jks have worthless engines there is nothing like a tj rubi

Yeah, and don't be afraid to walk out on him. He will realize he wants it sold. And it's a dealer right? If so it's costing him money keeping it on the lot everyday it's still there. I think you should do the JK Since the mileage is lower, although the mileage per year is higher. After you get it, flush all the liquids. Then you will be completely set to have fun!

Interesting little side effect you're going to observe here Millfire . . . .

Folks tend to love their Jeeps. So, TJ owners will proclaim its superiority--like Jeepoffroad04's (silly) comment about the JK's engine. Whereas JK owners will say you should certainly go with the JK, as did BlackMountain.

Another group will say you should wait altogether, as a new near mythical engine is due to arrive in the JKs next year. That was AgtSunshine. This group believes of course that this new engine will come without any hitches, no other less desirable changes will be made, it will cure cancer, and that you in fact want to spend $30k on a new Jeep rather than the sub-$20k numbers you're looking at now and actually asked about.

Finally, some folks will conclude they don't really know enough about your situation to make an informed recommendation, and instead will simply try to explain the differences between the two and answer whatever specific questions you may have.

although i did recommend getting the jk over the tj not just because i have one, but for other reasons i didn't elaborate on.

it depends on how much roading he will be doing also

If there's a winner, it's the original poster. Going from "no Jeep" to "Jeep" is always a win.

I hadn't meant to imply you were somehow blindly recommending a JK, but, rather, that the thread was shaping up to reflect a common pattern that the OP may not have anticipated.

There's lots of good reasons to recommend a particular choice in either direction, and I'm sure you have many. It's just that this pattern tends to arise whenever this debate comes around, so I wanted to mention it for the OP's benefit.

well for one, ones a rubicon. if you wana offroad now but the rubi. If you want a jk, for all the nice shiny things you get, get the jk. Its really personal preference and what style you like man. just have fun

Are they both basically stock? Is one modded more than the other?

If the JK is more stock, I'd go with it. 20000 miles a year is nothing for me to do and most of them will be road miles. I traded my '05 Tundra with over 122000 miles for my Jeep.

You can't pass up a Rubi, don't care if it's a TJ or a JK. Having a Rubi instantly lets you mod it in ways that you couldn't do inexpensively without it.

If you are going to spend in excess of 19000.00 get a new JK. You can probably get an orphan 2010 and it may not be the color that you want but that much money go NEW!

I never said anything about the 3.6l curing cancer.

I have read rumors about aging TJs causing the recent spike in herpes however

In all seriousness, both the TJ and JK are fine options. It just comes down to what YOU plan to do with it.

As for the Pentastar, I plan on visiting some dealer mechanics in the spring to ask for their input on it. If it's too dicey, I'll snag a 3.8 before they go tubby bye bye.

We should start this all over

Tell us what you want to do with your new Jeep. Will it be a daily driver, mall crawler, rock crawler? What is your final goal?

If you want a daily driver and don't intend to offroad it or if you have a long daily commute, go with the JK. I'm not saying that the JK is not trail worthy, it is, but it is inferior to the Rubi in either JK or TJ.

The Rubi already has the D44s front and rear and lockers just to name a few of the goodies . It is a superior performer offroad and can more easily be modified. The choice is yours. I wish someone had given me this advice before I bought mine cause I'd be driving a Rubi right now.

Dont buy that used JK for that price! I got mine new for less out the door . Look around, you can find a left over 2010 somewhere, even if you pay $500 to have it delivered across the usa, isnt it better to have 0miles than 60k? And a warranty...'nuff said
And dont worry the JK's are awesome, the others who bash em are just little b...

Well It will be a daily driver but I am going to try to make it to places like Badlands and may do some other wheeling. Not really into mud but would love to do trail rides, but nothing where I would need a rear dig or rear steer. Just the normal occasional stuff I might face while meeting new Jeepers.

If you dont plan on doing any real wheeling other than occasional fun the JK hands down. Have you drove both Jeeps? I drive a TJ and JK regularly. There is no comparison and while a TJ rubi is better suited for off road stock your stock JK is like having a 3 inch lifted TJ on 33's so keep that in mind. I personally would spend slightly if any more and get a 2010 left over like some have said.
