I have been thinking about buying myself a birthday present. Has anyone seen the article on Page 64 of the February JPMagazine?

ARB CKMP12 or the VIAIR 400-PAuto?

Haven't seen the article but I'm curious to read it. We just went this decision ourselves and ended up with the 400P. Very happy with it.

I did exactly the same. Quick to refill the tires, easy to use and, takes minimum space for storage.

If you plan on 33's or less either one should do ya. If you are planning 35's or better I'd just bite the bullet and go for the ARB Twin with the M.O.R.E under hood mount, wired to an SPOD. (quite the brand dropping there). Had a 400p with 35's, its a wait to inflate. The 400 did great with the stock 32's. We now toss that into the back of our Trailhawk when exploring with it. After having to pull out and put away our ARB twin for about 18 months I had it mounted and wired under the hood. A great thing about having it mounted in the jeep is that you always leave home with it AND its one less thing to lug in and out of the jeep, also leaves storage for something else. Now all I drag out and put away is the hose and filler lead.

We made the mistake of buying for now instead of what the build plan was for, thus bought many things twice.

If you want the added usability of possible air tools, or quick fill up times, look at running a 10-15lbs CO2 tank instead. Very portable, can be filled at any fire extinguisher/beverage/weld supply shops. Fills tires very fast with a high flow valve.

I have the ARB CKMA12 mounted under the hood of my Rubicon: it inflates 35" tires in 2.5 minutes.

Best parts is: doesn't take up any precious space in my 2-door.

I finally bit the bullet and went with a 20lb co2 tank and regulator from Amazon and I can say I am very happy with the results. Aired 37s back up after trail ride in a matter of seconds for each tire. Then watched all the others with compressors wait and wait while they aired up. Im sold on co2 tank. I have about $180 in my tank regulator and hose. $22 to fill the tank. Only thing I would change is next time I would go with a 10lb tank. This 20 is a big sombitch.

ohioviper,
Well Sir, I have the Viair 400P 12V compressor and, like you stated, I had to "wait and wait" etc. to air up my 315s from 10 psi. trail pressure to 30 psi. street pressure. That would take anywhere from 2.45 per tire up to 3.50 per tire, depending on the mood of the compressor. Well, I decided to dig into information on C02 systems. The "Power Tank" system is a bit on the expensive side to, I too resorted to "Amazon".
I've got the 10 lb. brand new Aluminum tank, a fixed pressure 150 psi. regulator, a 25' "Flexilla" hose and, a cheap-o $10 Campbell Hausfeld straight-clamp air chuck. I have around $165 in my system and, here in Lake Havasu City AZ, I paid a whopping $12.88 for a complete fill of the new 10# bottle.
We just got back from the Quartzsite annual RV event where we did some Jeeping too and, that system worked absolutely flawless. Right at 45 seconds per tire and I was DONE! Now, airing up tires is normally not an "Indy Pit stop" exercise and not many people are in a hurry. I just don't like waiting and waiting and, I have to run the engine for that compressor to get full voltage so it pumps as efficiently as possible. No more of that.

I too am extremely happy with the new CO2 system. By the way, I did a modification to the valve so I could just leave that CO2 bottle in the Jeep, LAYING DOWN, and just hook the air hose to it. I don't have to bring the bottle around with me to each tire or, have it clamped to a roll bar section or outside on the back etc. It's tucked away inside a special, carpeted box, to keep it secure and from rolling around. Works great that way. And, if necessary, it can be plucked out of that cubby hole and used in the verticle postion too. Kind-a the best of both worlds.
