Opinion on new JK purchase

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum and to Jeeps in general so please bear with me. I've been doing some research for about a month now and have been looking for JK's in my area. Now let me say this up front... I'm COMPLETELY new to offroading so I'm learning all this as I go. With that said...

I found a JK in IN that looked promising, but I wanted other opinions in case I'm missing something. Its a 2013 with 412mi on it and its listed as new. I asked the dealer for some more information about the accessories on the Jeep and this is what he sent.

" 3" pro comp suspension lift,18" custom wheels, Mickey Thompsons sz 305/70/r18 Baja MTZ tires, off road xrc front and rear bumpers, rockslides side steps, xrc 8000 winch, off road lights, jeep grab handles, all weather cargo liners, front and rear light grilles, speedo calibration module, all covered through manufacturers warranty." I did ask about gears and he said they were still stock which is the only thing that worries me with the 35s on there.

Its a bright green with black spatter decaled manual trans sport with A/C as the only option. They're listing it for $23,521. Is this as awesome of a deal as I think it is or am I missing something?

I plan on using the vehicle as a daily driver with a short commute (usually no highway speeds but I'd like the option). I haven't been offroading, but I do plan on doing it occasionally. Theres an offroad park about 2 hours from me.

I'd appreciate your input guys!

If it's "bright" green then I assume it's Gecko. Gecko was last painted in November of 2012, so this unit has been sitting around for a while. Not a bad thing, just an observation.

"Stock" gears on that Jeep were 3.21s, running 35"s it's going to be sluggish, if not down right a pig; poor fuel economy and poor power makes for a bad daily driver. Probably why it's still sitting on the lot. The price reflects two things: dealers desire to liquidate "shop worn" inventory, and I am sure some manu money to get the 13s out of the way.

BUT, that is a bunch of bolt-ons for the money. IF that's the way you would want to build your Jeep, the low price would allow you to save the coin to re-gear, 'cause I am sure this little puddle jumper could benefit from a new set of ring and pinions.

if the dealer is saying he'll back the work (mods done) then you need to see exactly what he means by that in writing...

otherwise with some 4.56 gears you would probably enjoy it...

Pro Comp is well known in the truck world, but I don't know any Jeep guys who run 'em. (I'm sure they do though, pretty big company)

thats a lot of bang for the buck. i would pick it up even though if it has 3.21 gears. that could be upgraded later on.

I'm on a tight budget and this is RIIIIGHT at the edge of what I wanted to spend. I had entertained the idea of some that were right around $20k with no AC no accessories and then found this one.

Any idea what gears and labor are going to run me? $1200 or so? Just trying to figure out if stock gears are something I can deal with while I save up for a bit.

Looks like a good set up and most aftermarket parts are only covered by the respected manufacture not dealership. Swap of axle is about 1500 I just did mine with a rear locker for 2200 and went with a 4.56.

Don't forget....you have to do TWO axles. That's a whole lotta fun for that much money, but I would personally rip that ape-tape off the sides. Looks like bat do-do.

The only thing bad about posting something like this on a public forum is that you've made countless others aware of the specific jeep that you want and there's a good chance that the exact one that you are referring to will be purchased by someone else who's nearer and/or willing to pay more than you.

If you're just kicking tires, cool. But if you're serious about buying, go for a test drive and if you still like it, make an offer and go from there. Don't do any of this, "I'll think about it" bs that everyone says.

That said, the jeep sounds like a good deal. There are certain variables that I don't like about this particular vehicle, but those are largely personal preferences. Either way, you're on track to getting a new Jeep!!

That's awesome! Get excited and go git it!

Test drive it and see if it's sluggish. It might have 3.73 gears which wouldn't require a re-gear.

Gears with master overhaul kits 550.00. Install should be between 6 and 900 for a grand total of no more than 1500.00. the best i found is 900.00 in my area.

Is that a typo? Is the Jeep in Indiana and you're in Wisconsin? Or did you type "In" twice?

Work with the dealer to do the gears. Offer him a grand for both ends to 4:56.

Make sure he isn't selling for 23 plus the add ons. If I was still looking I would be there tomorrow morning to pick it up

^yes, OP...you need to double check. i was quoted 28k last year for one that was already lifted, 35's, body armor, winch, and other goodies. when i checked it out...the dealer installed accessories price was over-inflated to 11k.

Then plan on spending the weekend- and tell the dealer you want a weekend test drive. While I agree its a good deal- are you going to drive to Indiana if you need warranty work? Remember- the only thing Jeep will warrant is what comes out of the factory. Make sure everything on that lift/suspension works properly before you drive back home. And don't forget to calculate transport or gas costs into your savings. I've driven many miles to get the vehicle I want so I understand.
You might also want to clarify if by "new" that means a "new car (Jeep)" loan rate if you're financing. Usually a percent or two different between a "new" car loan and "used".

Thanks for the advice! Its only about a 2 hour drive so its not TOO far away. It has about 400 miles on it and the warning tags are still on the interior so im guessing its new new.

"Sorry. My associate told you the wrong price. Its actually $39, 500." Thats what I got from the manager when I finally had to call them back on Monday. Knew it was too good to be true. Sure was pissed at that sales guy for wasting 4 days of my time though. Meanwhile another one I was looking at got sold. Oh well the hunt continues!
