Opinions on a Jeep concept

What would be your thoughts if Jeep put a solid front axle and an optional 2.5L Turbo-Diesel engine on a Jeep Patriot? Or if it was an upgradeable option that could only be ordered from the factory? I think it's an intriguing idea and could quite honestly be a decent replacement to the beloved XJ...Or maybe I've had one to many ...

I had a patriot and loved it. I would be interested in it. The only problem is it would be outrageously priced. One of the best things about the patriot now is it cheap!

You are correct, it's a great idea. There is one major flaw. The Patriot is a transaxle (FWD) CVT. You'd have to rotate the engine, develop an entire RWD transmission for a 4cyl,and architecture. This would cost more than a JK 4DOOR.

The XJ Cherokee is still built, regardless of what most believe, (and for the right reasons).
It has a Dana 30 Front/Dana 44 Rear
Command Trac 4x4, to keep it simple
It has steel wheels, and crappy tires
3.6L V6 (Demand for Power)
Automatic AND Manual STILL!

More interior room, (we know all vehicles get larger overtime)
Crank Windows, and/or Base Power Package
Decent Radio, and a slight upgrade available

It's built and outsells the JK 2DOOR.

It's theJK 4DOOR!
Added Benefits over XJ:
Probaby cheaper at $25K over an updated xj
Removable Doors
Removable Roof!
4 Wheel Disc Brakes!
Side Curtain Air Bags
Heated Seats

There will be another XJ replacement someday....it will be a game changer. The NEW Cherokee is a decent attempt at that.THe XJ wasn't the firstand only Cherokee. It was an evolution of a 4WD Car, the Gremlin/AMC Eagle. Check it out, it makes sense.
I'm sure all those FSJ Cherokee owners Mother F'd AMC Jeep for using their beloved Cherokee Name on a gasp "Car".

This isn't to be argumentative but supportive. The next gen XJ exist, it's a JKU-4DR. But you are right, it's a bad ass idea to have a smaller solid axle Jeep.

Well, it does brief well...I still think, if it were in some way possible, which I now know that it is not, that a Patriot with a diesel and solid axles would be fun as hell to wheel. Good call on the Unlimited being the XJ replacement though, never looked at it like that before.

This would be awesome. It'd be like a baby XJ. I really like the Patriot anyway. The Wrangler and the Patriot are the only Jeep-looking Jeeps left.

I agree on the JKU being the XJ replacement. Now if we could make the Wrangler into a production Comanche replacement too.

Have you forgotten the KK Liberty? It went by Liberty in the US, but everywhere else it was known as the Cherokee.

True, but that was a step in the more domesticated less rugged direction. JKU was a step in the right direction in my opinion.

The Patriot is nothing more than a regrilled Dodge Caliber (the Neon replacement). The Patriot, like the Caliber is dead. Putting a solid axle under the front is about as viable as dropping Dana 44's under our Subaru Outback. Never, ever, going to happen.

I know it won't happen. But, I would prefer that option over the new "Cherokee". Still think it'd be a cool concept.

I agree. The Patriot is the only small SUV that'd I'd ever consider owning. You're right about the Wrangler and Patriot being the only Jeep-looking Jeeps.

A Jeep truck, not a Wrangler pick up, I'm talking a Jeep Kaiser. I would make it a limited production vehicle for the first few years just to see how sales went. It would come standard with the 5.7L Hemi, or an optional 6.7L Cummins.

I posted this in another thread and TOK brought up a good point about Jeep possibly stealing sales from Dodge.

A Jeep Kaiser would certainly be just as agreeable to me if you could keep the open top feature and offer a manual transmission option among other things.

Actually that was the Compass, not the Patriot.

I think you're confused. The 4 door Wrangler was just the natural progression from the LJ.

The Compass, Patriot, and Caliber all share the same GS platform, as do a couple of different Mitsubishis.

Ha ha. Or I'm just playing along with what Internet Ryan originally and figuratively said.
