Opinions on this mod...

Does anyone know if this front bumper center hoop part could be made to fit on the stock bumper...

Rugged Ridge 11540.14 - Rugged Ridge Modular XHD Front Bumper Center Hoop in Textured Black for 76-11 Jeep® CJ-5, CJ-7, CJ-8 Scrambler, Wrangler YJ, TJ, JK & Unlimited - Quadratec

Here's my thinking. I like the look of the light bars (Mopar, Rugged Ridge) that can be installed on the stock bumper. But...I don't have a need for extra lights and those light bars have the tabs built on to them to install lights which would probably look stupid without lights attached to them. Well, this part does not have the tabs. I know it is supposed to install on an RR XHD bumper, but I actually like the stock bumper and once I get the VDP stubby installed, I'll like it even more. So, do you think I could make it work with some drilling? I realize it won't provide any extra protection, it would just be cause I like how it looks. I would just hate to get it and start trying to install it and find out it's a lost cause.

Any ideas or suggestions?? Thanks

I was in the same boat as you when I bought my Wrangler. I was hoping to find a way to dulicate the look I had on my CJ7 with the front brush guard.

MTH has the RR light bar and cut off the tabs. I really like the MBRP light bar and was close to going with that one before I decided on a RR tube bumper.

U can remove the tabs of you choose.

I think the rugged ridge pre-runner bar is pretty close to what you are looking for. I know it's set up for lights, but that is just two small holes in the bottom of the top rung of the bar. you could always plug them up if you don't want to add lights.

Good ideas, y'all. I PM'd MTH about the mod he did to the RR light bar. I kinda like the look of that more than some of the others, and... I was hoping to do this sorta cheaply, like under $100. I still like the idea of the RR Center Hoop (and it is pretty inexpensive). I wish I could see one and look at it for real.

PM returned. Here's a recent shot where you can make out the light bar along with the RC stubby kit and the skid plate below the bumper:

And here's a shot from the front prior to the install of the lift shown in the photo above:

I get quite a few questions about this set up. It's this Rugged Ridge light bar. I cut the light brackets off with a sawzall and used an angle grinder to smooth out the cuts. Then I bedlined over the exposed metal with spray-on Rustoleum bedliner. Install wasn't bad, though your fingers need to get to some narrow spots.

I will say that the steel on the light brackets is no joke. I mounted the light bar first and then used a sawzall, and the sawing definitely worked the mounting hardward pretty hard (though it's still rock solid). If I had it to do again, I'd consider cutting the tabs before mounting if you've got a bench mounted vice.

It's also this shorty bumper cap set as well as this skid plate. It appears that Elevated may not be making the skid anymore, though threre are quite obviously many like it with a similar minimalist look.

Beyond all that, it's a stock bumper, though in the interest of full disclosure I should also note that I bedlined the "Jeep" logo and added this grille mesh.

MTH,

Do you have a shot of the front bumper and light bar from a distance?

All the pics I sse of this set up are close up, I would like to get a better reference to how the stubby looks with the stock fenders and how the light bar looks on the stubby.

thanks!

Hmm . . .

This one (pre-current lift and pre-new wheels/tires) is a little farther out:

That's about as far out as I've got on my computer now. Does that help?

A little further out and turn your wheels slightly to the left. Oh, and move the flower pot please.

And maybe put down about eight inches of dirt on one side so I can flex the suspension a little bit?

Sorry for the hijack. Or maybe not...
I just installed the RC bumper caps last night. The site I ordered from didn't have stock so they came directly from RC. Appears they changed the ends a little since yours MTH.

Yep. They are metal now and have that curved cut out.

Mine are the old style also.

I'm glad they changed, I wasn't 100% sold on the squared ends but liked them more than the other option.

I've always liked the look of this on your rig. Happened to be scanning through the latest Quadratec catalog a few days ago and something jumped out at me. Apparently, Olympic has come out with a light bar that is basically identical to the RR one, for $25 less; $64.99. Not sure on the quality and it isn't even available on their website yet, but just thought I would mention it. I may end up going with this one and throw 3 Rigid Duallys on it. As you can see, the page is already dog-eared. lol

hhmmm........Just noticed something. The pics of the Rugged Ridge one on their site and the pic of the Olympic one in the catalog are pretty much IDENTICAL. Just looks like the RR pic was crapped a little tighter. Only difference is the RR one on the site appears to have the Rugged Ridge logo in the center of the hoop (probably Photoshopped out for the Olympic one). But, then there is a second pic of the RR one on the site and it appears to have a completely different finish and no logo! Mike, your's doesn't appear to have a logo on it. hhhmmm.....

Here are the two pics of the RR one from the Quadratec site.

And let's not forget the Mopar one, which also appears identical.

True, but at least they used a different pic. Lol. The RR pic on the site and the Olympic pic in the catalog are the exact same pic. Haha.

Definitely...YES. I think the visual impact you get far outweighs the price of the stubby.

Mike can you take a picture of the Jeep on a 31 degree incline, facing east, on a saturday, at exactly 5:42 pm? I can't make up my mind...oh and can you wash it and have the headlights on and 3 of the 4 windows down?

(Just thought I'd add to the silliness....)
