Outrageous tinting price?

So I wanted to have the hardtop glass tinted (2 door) and asked for a quote from the dealership I bought the vehicle from. $690 for tinting + labor??!! I remember seeing some threads here saying $200 would already be a ripoff.. Sorry for the rant..

That price would be comical if it weren't outright insulting.

I would have laughed at them and mentioned it may be wise to examine their pricing strategy.

yea....I would say they just don't want the business....The hardtop might be 40 bucks in tint and 90 minutes with someone who does it for a living...

That's what you get for going to a dealer for a non dealer request. They aren't in the business of tinting windows and figure if you don't know any better to begin with then you won't know your getting ripped off. I'm glad you know though, just find an audio or glass shop, both usually do it and for much cheaper prices.

That is absolutely insane. I paid $250 for my 2012 Beetle (with a bubble shaped rear window, no less) for five windows. I paid $225 for my 2009 Impreza, 7 windows + windshield strip.

Thanks guys. I thought glass shops only do replacements/repairs. This obviously works differently here than where I'm from I'm glad I found our forum here, so much knowledge

Yeah that's way too much, especially since I'm sure the dealer is sub'ing it out and it won't be top quality tint. Can a tint job run several hundred dollars? Sure. Huper Optik comes to mind and depending on the vehicle and windows can easily run 500 bucks, but we're talking high quality ceramic tint.

Personally, I'll be looking at spending 150-200 to do our Unlimited. I can and have gotten tint for cheaper, but I was really pleased with the last place I used.

And try to find a place that will cut the film on a cutter. I will try to never use hand cut film again after a sloppy job on my Nissan.

shouldn't be more than $150, tops. That price is a perfect example why people don't trust the "stealer". I wouldn't give them one more dime of your business

I paid 75 to get my 2 door tinted. It'd be best if you found some local shop to do it.

You went to the stealership...what did you expect?

What isn't overpriced at the dealership?

A good tint shop usually charges $35-45 per window, at least here in NY.

Our local Jeep dealer does it automatically on all their Jeeps....no extra charge but I'm sure they build that cost into the Jeep somewhere...

I was just quoted this for my two fronts, 3M:

The two fronts to match the back will cost 119.00. Your wrangler takes about 1 1/2 hours to tint properly.

I did my own hardtop for $10. PepBoys sells the rolls of tint. One roll is enough for both side windows.

At the same time, cheaping out on a tint job may result in you getting poor quality tint & poor quality installation which may result in discoloring, bubbling, etc. over time.

I recommend a reputable tint shop in your area, ask around.

Getting the front to match the back isn't hard. 20% should do it. I paid $100 for the front two windows + a strip across the front. In all honesty, Jeep windows are easy to tint since all the sides are pretty much flat. I only paid someone to do it for the life time warranty. Free replacements in case of bubbles, scratches, etc.

I paid $70 for the front two a few weeks back. They had a cheaper tint for less too.

I paid $140 for my 2010 unlimited . That is blacked out all the way around. Look in the phone book for a tint shop and find one in the ballpark

Even though most state laws don't allow it, be very cautious if you go with 15% or less on the front two windows. It makes it very difficult at night to see when dash lights, etc. from inside start reflecting against that dark tint. I went with 15% with my brow, but that is the only area I would do that dark other than the rear windows.
