Paint for ACE rock rails?

Hi guys, ACE rock rails will be one of my first mods as I have a vertically challenged wife, and if I remember correctly I read a couple people say the rock rails are excellent steps, however the paint on them isn't the greatest.

What would be the best paint or coating to hit them with before installing for durability in Canada's salty winters as well as adding some traction for it to be used as a step.

Thanks!

What makes you think the ACE rails powder coating "isn't the greatest?"

I've been bouncing rocks off of them for two years with nary a chip on them....

Is it the color you want to change?

Hi Up Hill Bill.. No I read a thread somewhere that someone had mentioned the finish could be improved and they wished they bed lined it or something, If I'm not mistaken.

Are you in the rust belt and experience any rust issues?

The powder coating may be great, I'm just looking for feedback to know if I'll need to paint them with something a bit more durable for Canada's salty rusty winters.

Thanks

No salt on the roads here - just sand. Because I'm close to the ocean and the wet North West coastal climate, rust is an issue, but no like where roads are salted...

ACE is in Michigan, so they probably know a bit about road salt and rust. Why don't you call/email them and ask their opinion. I know they are very busy, but they had time to talk to me about fitment issues a few years ago. Great customer service!

p.s. IIRC, ACE has a lifetime warranty against breakage - even off-road!

I have heard the same thing about the finish FXnut. I guess we read the same thread. I also have a vertically challenged wife and plan on getting the ace sliders - Lift and tires come first though - The wife will be begging for a step and I will say (sarcastically)" Darn it! I guess I will have to order some steps(sliders) for you then." See, it is like getting a free pass on a mod.

Great plan!! I'll have to add that to my list of excuses right next to "Honey, we need a stubby front bumper with stinger so you have something to hold onto when you have to pee.."

I'm going to give ACE a call and see what they recommend.
