Paint upper halves of full doors/simulated halves?

Has anyone plasti-dipped or painted the upper half of their full doors at the tub line (or close to it, since the handle sits a little higher) to simulate the look of half doors? I think the full door really screws up the Jeep look, but I don't have the coin to drop on a set of halves at the moment. Was wondering what it might look like.

Sounds like a good idea. You are nominated to give it a try. Masking tape and a can of PlastiDip and you can get a good idea of what it looks like for under 10 bucks. Be sure and post up pix. I assume you'd do the whole door window surround also?

I thought about doing it the biggest problem is the door handles are higher up than a halfdoors so the line would go right behind the handle.

I've got those black disk protector things behind my door handles, 'cuz I have a bad habit of grabbing doors with keys in my hands. If I were gonna do it, I'd mask straight across and mask those off (so the handle dip was all black anyway).

Window... surround? Not sure I follow. Basically mask a line across the door simulating the half door line, mask off my window, and everything from there up black (so it looks kind of like the soft upper). I only have a 2-door, so I've got no B-pillar/surround thing behind it - is that what you're talking about?

No, I just meant the painted window frame -- the skinny part of the door if you will. Sounds like that's what you're doing.

That along with painting the B pillar on the Unlimited would look really sweet.
Painting the B pillar would look good when running naked too.

I was all set to paint or vinyl wrap until I saw the VIN sticker on b-pillar and I am not sure I am willing to cover or possibly damage it.

A bit of Scotch blue tape over the decal would protect it from paint.
The vinyl wrap would be a bit more difficult, as it would need to be cut around the decal. So that would take a patient, critical eye.

You don't also have a 1984 Cadillac Cimeron with a fake convertible vinyl top in your garage do you?

I've seen the B pillar on the Unlimited bedlined, but I can't remember where. Yeah, it looked good.

Oh, you. I'm not trying to go fake 'vert, I just want to clean up the lines a little.

Eh - I'd probably just do the outside with the 'dip.

I did this awhile ago. Lasted about a day before I peeled it off. I wasn't able to get the plastidip to come off in a nice straight line without peeling up on me. My technique must have been to blame because I just plastidipped my rocker panels this past week and they came out great. It was also kind of hard to make it look right due to the handle placement on the full door.

It doesn't look that bad though. It actually looks pretty cool.

But I've been told I have "odd tastes" before.

Man, you should've bought a TJ. They had that body line on the door that made it easy plus the door handle was easier to mask off.

I think it looks great! Nice work. Definitely adds some coolness over just the plain normal full doors. And you can still use these during the winter months.
