Painting Rims to Match Body color?

Just curious if anyone has seen anyone do this. I saw a Polaris razr with a tan body and tan rims. It looked awesome! Opinions appreciated as well as estimate ideas.

The biggest problem there is that there are a lot of different gradients of black so it is not really matching, just complimentary.

I had the rims on a Civic 4x4 Wagon painted to match the body back in '90. I really liked the look and the paint held up well even with Michigan chemical deicers. I think it would be a good look on a JK too. It certainly would go away from being just a follower.

I agree. Trying to break old trends by doing something new. I am currently researching it very carefully.

I didnt used primer. The thicker the finish the more prone it seems to be for chipping and my paint on the rims we're fine and no chips, so only scuffing or dulling is necessary!

3 should doit it. Keep it thin but fully covered!Plus you'll have some for touching up the chips all over !
>Clear coat? did you use it? Im thinking a can a rim
2 to cans is plenty! Buy a third if you want to be safe. You want to coat it till its shiny then a second application, again till its shiny or "wet".

With their clear coat you shouldnt have to rub it out . Heres an example how it looks on my roll bar.

Thanks again Dave, I really appreciate all of your help.

Looks real nice Dave. Ive been pricing 33's to fit my OEM rims and the prices are pretty freakin high. Thats what Id like to do. And paint them. Might not be til spring but thats option #1.
Or...Get the tires you got on yours and get diff rims. Believe it or not that probably the cheaper way to go. Will 15's fit around the calipers? whats on yours? and what width rims with those tires? 10.5,11.5,12.5?
Thanks Dave. Youre awesome.

Jon your welcome! I'm running these wheels JK Savegre Wheels - JK (2007+ Wrangler) - Shop By Vehicle witch are perfect for 33's and stay pretty mutch in the wheel well with no rubbing.Press the specs tab to get the info. They are also hub centric. The tires are the Goodyear DuraTrac 285/70R17 roughly 33's and 11" wide. I had this setup on my last JK and loved it.

Hi Dave-If you would, Check out these rims(17x8.5 V Tec Warlord 5x127 25mm Black Matte) and let me know if they'll fit the same tires you have. Two specs are slightly different, the backspacing and offset. There 's quite a difference and im not sure what they mean. I like them alot. Whats your opinion. If they'll work Im leaning towards buying a set with the Duratracs. These tire prices for 18" rims are just as much as stepping down, buying smaller rims and new smaller rimmed tires. Let me know.
Also, hows the gas mileage change with those tires.
Thanks
Jon
