I want to paint my silver stock wheels black for a better look on my jeep, how did y'all paint your wheels and what did you paint it with (and did you like the paintjob)? Any pictures you have would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a few pics of mine after plasti dip. It should take you roughly 4-5 hours if you do it right and give it time to set. I did 5 coats, each one building upon the last. The trick is to basically do 15% the first application, then go to 30% etc until it's covered. Give each coat roughly 25-35 minutes to dry before applying the next coat. Check out the videos on YouTube or on dipyourcar.com for more advice.

This is a great thread. I'd love to do this to my wheels. Can you guys tell me the exact type of plastidip you used, i did a search on amazon and it looks like there are a bunch of different types. And did you take the wheels off and spray paint them or just do it with the tires still on it?

. I went to Lowe's and bought the regular black rattle cans. You'll need roughly 4-5 cans based on how thick you go. I took the wheels off and sprayed one side plus the spare, then rotated the tires and did the remaining two. I taped the lug nuts and placed them in the holes, but have seen people use quarters to cover the holes. If you plasti dip where the lug nuts go, when you reattach the tire, the lug nuts will tear the dip. There are some videos online that show how you can cut a garbage bag and stuff in between the brakes and wheel to dip the wheels while they are on the car.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the versatility of plasti dip. If someone did prior, my apologies, I must have over looked it.

It's really easy! I did my grille a few weeks ago; at first there was a lot of apprehension. I was surprised how easy and forgiving plasti dip is; you almost can't mess it up.

I would recommend putting on at least four coats. It's very durable. I've taken a power washer to my grille and it doesn't peel or flake.

You can plasti dip almost anything on your Jeep. The only limit is your creativity. It'll look good on your wheels. If something does scratch the dip, all you need to do is spray a little more on to touch it up.

If you don't like how it looks, you can peel it off.

Just throwing in a pic of my grille. I'm hoping to do the wheels this week. There's a lot of Jeepers in my area and were all competing to see who can get the shipment of plasti dip from the local stores.

Ignore the dude standing, the Jeep is the good looking one.
Hope the pic comes out, it's my first attempt at uploading a pic to the forum.

Post pics when you're done!

It's a lot more work and a risk to paint your rims with enamel. But if it's done right , you will be left with a nice shiny gloss finish . But if you go this route you have to sand , primer , paint , clearcoat, wetsand , compound , buff out. Or plastidip it .... I didn't even take off my rims , just covered the brakes and calipers with scrunched up newspaper.

I've never taking my wheels/tires off my jeep. Is it easy to take just the wheel off, without needing to jack up my jeep, and spray it that way. Or, if I don't want to take off the whole wheel/tire would you just recommend leaving it all on and putting newspaper up behind the wheel to protect the brakes? And how long does the plastidip last before it starts to look bad?
Thanks!
