Pavement Ends Emergency Top???

I'm making my Christmas Wish List, and found a Pavement Ends Emergency Top for $99 on Quadratec.

After experiencing a few of those Top-Down, "Where-The-Hell-Did-That-Rain-Come-From?", pop-up showers during the Summer, I thought this might be a good and quick, Just-In-Case back-up Top.

Have any of you ever used these, or heard any Positive/Negative comments about them?

Thanks for any info!

Cheers!

BB

I haven't driven with it yet, but i keep it with me as a Just In Case. There have been two times where i had to throw it up in an instant while sitting in a parking lot. It is a completely water proof material. I had about 2 gallons sagging down into the cabin but not a drop inside.

It's not street legal to drive with in ohio because there aren't any windows on the side, but that wouldn't stop me from using it if I had to.

Does not take that long to put up and it has some good tie downs spots, although, if you were driving, top speed would need to be pretty slow.

There are some gaps when using the bestop two piece soft doors, but that may be eliminated with the hard doors.

Shop around- I picked mine up for $79.

Thanks JQ! I got a few others that gave me some Positive Feedback on other Forums. Some said they have driven as fast as 55mph in the rain with the top on, and some have had them for a couple of years, with no problems whatsoever.

I'll check around for Prices, and see what I can find.

Thanks again!

Cheers!

do you need door surrounds or any other hardware to run these tops?

Just to be clear, this is not a soft top. It is simply an emergency "raincoat" for your Jeep when you are topless. I have one and have used it many times, worth the money. No framework is needed, it straps down over your Jeep, but allows you to drive ~~45 mph.

Yes, it will work over a bikini/safari top.

I want something like this by the time summer rolls around. What about for when the doors are off? Any suggestions?

I was thinking the same thing.. do they make an emergency rain door?? (I may have to play around with some design ideas

I was just on quadratec and noticed this warning on the emergency top:

Will Not work well for hardtop models, needs soft top body tub belt rails for the installation.

whats that all about..

All wranglers have the belt rail on the rear tub. The plastic strip on the edges of a soft top fit into the belt rail on the tub. The rear portion of this emergency top uses the belt rail for attachment to the Jeep. No problem if your Jeep came with hardtop or soft top.

I just picked one up the other day, It should do the job of emergency rain protection just fine, but I wouldn't rely on it for much more. also there are huge gaps around the doors if you don't have the surrounds.

I either have the hard top or top or no top at all, so i dont have a soft top / bikini windshield rail for the emergency top. Is one required for the emergency top?

you don't need any soft top hardware for it to work, I used one for a month before I found a softop I liked. It does fit a bit better if you have the door surrounds, but they are not necessary.

Its actually a really great little rain cover, I am thinking of possibly selling mine if you want it.

I made some notes on our Pavement Ends Emegency Top on the thread http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/pav...op-102821.html

So far the only time we have had it on the jeep was to do a trial installation - which I highly recommend. You don't want to be in a downpour trying to figure it out for the first time.

I am not a seasoned "jeep" person, so I may be misunderstanding...
I have one of these emergency tops that came with the jeep when I about it (and not instructions, of course) and tried to put it on the other day, just to see how long it would take if actually needed. I found no rail or other way of attaching the sides on either side of the rear seat. Other than that, it seemed like it would work ok. Does anyone have any info on how it attaches along the sides of the tub?
The jeep is a 94 wrangler hard top.

Then Ohio should write a ticket to every 18-wheeler driver.

Those Peterbilts, Freightliners, etc. cabs only have windows in the doors, just like the 2-door Jeeps do. The truck driver can only see behind him/her via the side view mirrors, just like a Jeeper that is using an Emergency Top.

The next thing you know, Ohio will outlaw motorcycles, because they don't have seatbelts like the cars do.
