Performance options for the 3.6??

Just wondering if you guys did any reasonable mods to the 3.6 that you felt was worthwhile. I'm certainly not looking to race this thing but just wondering what options were out there for a slightly more grunt. I ordered a dynomax evolution comp cat back just for the sound.

I was going to look into some intakes but wasn't sure if it was a waste of money or not. I definitley do not want to get any kind of intake if it sacrafices how much water the jeep can go through or anything that would sacrafice it's rugged qualities. Just looking for a few ideas. Thanks !!

intakes are a waste of money, the 3.6 has a very well designed intake. supercharger for big gains, tuner for small gains.

Oh ok so maybe I'll stay away from the intakes. Yea I'm not interested in a supercharger since it's just another thing to worry about. Belts can break and i'm not looking that a huge power increase anyway. What kind of tuner do you suggest?? I have a procal or do you mean take it to a shop and request a tune? Didn't know if that would be worthwhile for the Jeep or not.

Well let me just ask this last question. If I did purchase a Volant cai will it put my Jeep at more risk of a hydrolock during the winter or fairly deep water crossings?? I was just thinking about this and to be honest the performance of the Jeep is fine. It's really the whisper quiet sound that i'd like to change. I was thinking the dynomax catback would go well with a CAI but only if the intake does not make the jeep more vulnerable to water/snow/mud related problems. If it does make it more vulnerable then I believe I will just go with the catback and call it a day. Sorry that's the last dumb question for the day.

I have the Volant w/ Donaldson PowerCore filter, the inlet isn't much different than oem.

A gear change would probably be the best power upgrade you can do short of a super charger.

So you would not worry too much about a higher risk of hydolock? Looks very cool btw

The intake thing is up for, as for this forum, a big debate. i went with the k&N CAI on my 3.6. love the sound and I noticed a little more punch. Also got the diablosport tuner. between the two I noticed an improvement even with stock 3.21 gears and 35" tires. Next upgrade is 4.56 gears.

As long as the water isn't over the lower hood line you should be fine.

I put a cat back exhaust system and got no power or mpg gain. Just louder and more clearance.

Which catback did you buy and how do you like the sound?

I went with the AFE High Tuck catback. It's perfect in my opinion.

with 315's, probably 4.56-4.88. if you plan on going larger on the tires i would go with 4.88 or 5.13.

I have a 2 door with the same engine, transmission, and gears as you. its not terrible on 37's. highway is fine but I would like a little more crawl so I will be going with 5.13's.
