Photos of Rugged Ridge Off-Road Jack Mount?

I am considering the Rugged Ridge Off-Road Jack Mount that attaches to the OEM spare tire mount hinges. I have seen how the product comes out in combination with the RR spare tire carrier and wonder if anyone has added the mod without it. If so:
1) Is it solid? (no clanking or rattling)
2) How is the install? (instructions, process, etc.)
3) Is there an extra hole where I could place a padlock to secure the jack? (it looks like it on Qtec, but can't tell for sure)
4) Have photos of how it looks? (especially height)
5) Anything else I should know before purchasing?

I installed this a few months ago and I think its worth the price.

1) Is it solid? (no clanking or rattling)
yes, very solid
2) How is the install? (instructions, process, etc.)
instructions are kind of vague, but its not too hard to figure it out. The template they give you(for drilling holes in the hinge covers) is a shrunk down copy, so throw it out. You can print out an accurate template from the internet.
3) Is there an extra hole where I could place a padlock to secure the jack? (it looks like it on Qtec, but can't tell for sure)
Yes, I put a standard size Master lock on mine
4) Have photos of how it looks (especially height)
height depends on what size jack you've got. My 48" jack sticks up a few inches from the roofline
5) Anything else I should know before purchasing?

I forgot to ask: Does the jack have any tilt (away from or towards jeep)?
I would still really like to see photos of this set up if anyone out there has one.

no tilt. it pretty much sits about 1/4 inch above the stock bumper. don't have any pics of mine, but here's one i found.

If only the roof was higher, or the jack was lower

I almost bought one of these a couple weeks ago, but they didn't have them in at the 4wheel parts store. I was actually more considering the Rampage one just to use for wheeling and save about $50. I've seen a good amount of review of them with people with no issues. My gut tells me the top of the jack hanging over the roof is a bit sketchy though.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT GATE MOUNTS
  • Easy to get to
  • Out of the way, It doesn't block getting stuff out of the rear.
  • It's a lot more safe in a crash than a hood mount, and your less likely to scratch the hell out of the hood getting it on/off.
  • Easy to get to and use and put back on even it tight spots.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE
  • If it's 48" or 60" it looks like it is going to snag limbs. Being that the limbs are so far away from the mount it would really put a good amount of leverage and torque on bolts/hinge mount, with not a whole lot of pressure. Think of how much more torque you can put on a 18" ratchet vs a hand ratchet for example. Over time that's going to take a toll. It's the main reason I'm looking for a better solution.
  • It puts weight on the rear gate. The manual is overly safe and state to only put 50lbs on the gate with the spare. The rubicon tire weighs around 75 so that's sort of nuts weight limit. The fact that it is near the hinge makes it a bit more liveable. If you're not driving around town showing it off, even better.
  • It's outside in the elements. If you leave the jack on the back all the time it's going to rust and screw it up.
WHAT TO CONSIDER
  • You can fit a 48" jack under your back seat in a 4DR. Perferablly wrapped i a towel.
  • If you have a hard-top or don't put your soft-top down often I would consider this one DOR Jack Mount Kit generated by VisualLightBox.com
  • People have gotten muffler mounts to work on the roll bar. With a 2dr that seems like the only way to store one inside.

MUFFLER MOUNT ON ROLL CAGE
This has been done more than a handful of times. I wish I could see one in person. When I go to the auto store it always looks like there isn't enough threads to put a wing nut on. Apparently I just need to take the $10 leap of faith, and quit searching for a better way. Here are my notes if you want to fab something like that
  • The roll bar with padding is 3"
  • The all red all cast iron one's base has 2.5" wide holes that would work awesome with a 2.5" u-bolt of some sort. The inner roll bar padding would need to be trimmed some.
  • You would want a rubber washer to stop rattling.
  • Some Muffler clamps are oily and some come clean.
  • $5 Hi-Lift mount - Page 4

Thanks! I drove a road trip to Mass from Central Florida with this thing on and it is solid as a rock. I actually lost the knob that secures the foot plate when I had to use the jack and the mount actually holds the jack just as sturdy without it.

QUESTION
I read a review about the Rampage gate mount that said the hi-lift nose will hit the break light if you opened the gate all the way. Will the hi-lift Rugged Ridge version gate mount hit the break light, or body, if the gate is all the way open?

LOOSING FAITH IN A ROLL-BAR MOUNT
I've tried to come up with a good rollbar mount. I tried conduit clamps near the bottom. That method didn't work good with the subwoofer. It also sucks how it blocks the cargo.

I also tried 2.5" u-bolts high on the rollbar. The u-bolts were not long enough to put an extra bolt and plate to secure it. Also the hi-lift is heavy and it would be hard to secure up there. I might try that again with a 3" u-bolt, but I'm now reconsidering other options. I don't like the hood mount because of the hi-lifts weight. At 48" it doesn't fit well anywhere inside a 2dr. That leaves the gate mount.

GATE-MOUNT
I might just chop off 6" of the hi-lift so it won't snag tree limbs, and give a gate mount a shot. At least the weight is about directly over the hinges.

The rampage $50 mount is racking up some bad reviews on amazon. Apparently the hardware is junk. People were commenting that you cannot use it with the hard-top window open. That seems pretty obvious. I'm thinking the RR one is the way to go. There is a teraflex one, but I think that is only for there after market gate hinge.

Just for the record, I have the rampage mount and a 48 inch hi-lift extreme jack. I read what was posted about the jack possibly smashing the taillight if you open the tailgate the whole way. I just went out and tested it and it is no where near hitting the taillight when the tailgate is fully opened. I have the soft top on so I couldn't test it with the hard top, but from what I am looking at I can't see how it would be in the way of opening the rear window with the hardtop on and tailgate open.

So the person who wrote that review on amazon was either a) lying b) had the mount installed incorrectly or c) had some other make of jack that has different dimensions than an actual hi-lift.

Thanks for checking. The hard top issue was just if you closed the gate before the window was closed. Pretty obvious that wouldn't work.

2 of 4 people said it hitting the break light was an issue.

Maybe they are storing the jack not all the way bottomed out? Doing some measurements that seems like the only way it could be an issue.

Now that you checked it I don't feel as sketch about getting a gate mount.

I also have taillight guards which stick out a bit and there is still no danger of the jack hitting them. I don't know if other jacks have a wider base. That could maybe be an issue. I remember seeing one person say their non-hi-lift brand jack wouldn't fit in the bottom of the rampage mount.

My hi-lift mounted on the RR does not hit the tail light when the tailgate is opened all the way.

However, if I closed the tailgate with the hard top window open, its safe to say that window would shatter.

I have the rampage one and the Base of my Hi-Lift smashes my tail light . I can't open the rear tailgate all the way, if I do I will lose my tail light.
