so where is the lever to release the carrier? is it behind the tire? I am trying to decide between this bumper/carrier and this one on found on eBay...

07-12 Jeep JK Wrangler Rock Crawler Guard Rear Bumper+TIRE CARRIE+ 2x D-Ring | eBay

I like the tire carrier portion look of the eBay one better but the guaranteed reliability factor of the ACE bumper.

There is no lever or button to release the carrier. There is a metal ACE backplate bolted in the exsisting holes from the stock tire carrier. This plate is what is connected by the linkage to the ACE tire carrier. It swings with the gate when opening and closing.

The e-auto bumper is not a linked system, so it has its own latch. The ACE unit is linked with the gate so it opens as one piece.

hmm....not sure if I like it to be bolted on to the existing gate...at the moment I want the tire carrier to open on it's own unless there is some advantage to it being bolted to the gate.

It works just like the stock tire carrier, its just "heavy duty" for larger tires and the pivot is part of the bumper, so no weight is on the rear gate sheet metal.

Personally, I would rather it open all together, really what need is there to have just the tire carrier open. I figure I would only have it all open at the same time, so would rather it all be together.

One less latch and one less thing to open when your hands are full of Banana Republic bags.

I keed, I keed.

I would actually prefer a linked setup personally. That's why I was really hoping the price of the new Teraflex unit was going to be in the $300 range.

lol, my brother is a store manager at a millennium BR. they are NICE stores. weird you mentioned that store.

anyway...about the linked setup, I just see it being less strain if any on the gate if the tire carrier is connected to bumper only, and in all honesty, I put effort into my own DIY rear gate plate and want to show it off
