I need some help guys. I'm wanting to get the ACE rock rails that are common on here but I don't know what they would like like without the rubicon rock rails, which I don't have. Do any of you have this setup with just the ACE rails only?
I plan to install the ACE sliders on my 2-door JK (without Rubi-rails) here in a week or two, and I'll put up some pictures from several angles afterward.
Just curious, OP: Why are you so dead-set on having the Smitty/Rubi-rails? I researched getting some just because I think they look sharp with the ACE sliders, but they would add 85-88 lbs and -- like you said -- aren't cheap.
Do you think the ACE sliders by themselves really look that bad?

I don't think the ACE sliders by themselves look bad I just can't stand the pinch seam on the Jeep, looks unfinished in my opinion. I ended up getting the smittybilt rock rails and will probably get the ACE sliders this summer after I do my leveling kit.
Here's a pic without OEM rubi rails. Right after install with old steps hanging out for whatever reason. I forget the purpose of the pic. I couldn't stand the pinch seam.
Here is with rubi rails installed. Don't waste money on new rubi rails. Check craigslist, I found multiple sets for $100 to $130. And paid $100... View attachment 109697
The only thing about using both is the step kinda seems a little smaller as my toe used to stick in under the rocker allowing the step to be in arch of my foot instead of the ball of my foot now. This is a non-issue as I don't step up facing the seat but more facing the front. If that makes sense...
2011 without rubi rails. I used a can of undercoat to black out the pinch seam. Made a huge difference in the look. Not sure you can see it real good in this picture.
have a look a the LOD rails. They have the equivalent of the rubi rails. LODOFFROAD.com. takes about an hour each side to install as you have to drill and tap
Just put them on this weekend to replace the crappy smittybuilt that didn't really fit or give me any confidence they would sustain any kind of abuse
