I used to take atvs, dirt bikes, Jeeps, Broncos etc back there when I was a kid. The trails are hardly ever as wet as they are in that video unless it JUST rained. Personally I got bored with that kinda terrain after going out in it for years. Would much rather hit some trails out west (AZ, NV, CA) or at least some trails in PA where its not just sand and puddles.

I've been back there a few times lately and it's been wet. The are some DEEP holes back there currently.

I've been there 2 times! I didn't get stuck but plenty in our group did! There was one place that the majority got stuck (they all needed a winch to get out)! And after I went thru 10 others got stuck so the lead guy, started walking (literally waking) everyone else thru as they drove . I have a fully stock JKU '12.
It can be tough, yes there are go arounds for most places, NOT all and the ones w/o can be the most challenging!
You do need a person who is experienced with this area....
Have fun guys
The red jeep "paved the way" for everyone. This is NOT the challenging place.
This was SOME of the group from last time:

For any of you going that has a manual transmission, DO NOT use your clutch in the water.

I'll admit the terrain gets old if you are just joyriding. That's why I try to have a destination or destinations in mind anymore.
There is some interesting stuff back there that you need a Jeep to get to.

Was just there on Friday. Not too bad considering that it rained the night before! A TJ Rubicon and my JK Rubicon, both on 33's with mild mods. Roads were bone dry with your typical water filled hole, but even they seemed lower then normal.

Ok so let's change this up then. Who says Rausch and who says Pine Barrens. I'll go where most people want to go. I really don't care as long as I'm off road. It's all new to me so I don't know what I'll like and not like.

I've been dying to go to RC.... The club I'm in goes out once/month but I keep missing them.... Let me know when you plan something I'd love to join!

I believe RC is a good 2.5 hrs from SJ.

Pines are pretty much the backyard.

RC is far superior though

While I haven't been, it sounds like Rouche is more like what most folks are probably expecting from an outing of this type.

I enjoy the Pinelands for what they are, but it can get monotonous on the trails sometimes, I won't lie to ya. There are spots where people go to play, but they are usually not large, and the terrain isn't that varied.

Having a specific place to go is more my thing.
My personal interest lies in the specific places and the stories they have to tell, and you know...hanging in the woods! I grew up doing it and I like it.

My wife and I explored a bit of Pa. over a 5-6 year period, and getting the Jeep is kind of an extension of those activities.
(Our 05' Hyundai Elantra GT could only do roads. )

You don't need a Jeep to get there, but Centrailia PA is an interesting place in Pa to take an off road vehicle, as are 3 abandoned PA turnpike tunnels, though only 2 are accessible as of my last research. (We've explored one already, and the other is being leased to a race team for aerodynamics research. ).

RC is great! It's the only place I've wheeled at so far....both times were guided rides, but I'm ready to go out on my own with a group of peeps!

I'd be into going!

You will do fine. I have a similar set up on my JKU. Go into water slow, less than 5 mph, and power out.

The next day you should spend some quality time with a power washer. Spend most of the time under your Jeep.

If you just like to roll around in the woods, Wharton is legal and free. If you want to see what your Jeep can do, go to Rausch Creek and get a guide to take you around the Greens and Blues. The 101 trail is a great experience for those off road first time.

Rausch might be a good 3+hrs from me I would assume. I still would like to go though. So are we set on Rausch?

I have also been planning a trip to Rausch during the spring/summer and taking one of their Off roading 101 beginner classes. Its a bit pricey but I think its worth it.

Membership: $15 (yearly fee) also applies to passengers 16+ years old
Entrance fee: $35 (for driver) $7 (each passenger 16+)
101 class: $125
Group Trail guide: $135
Min. # of Jeeps for a group: 2

Every run I make in the Pines is followed by a full wash down at the car wash.
You have to wash the stuff off right away or it can stick.

It's still kind of up in the air where we will wind up going. Rausch Creek seems like it would be more fun but its further away. Majority wins I guess.

I'm passing through centrailia between the dec 26-28 and again jan 3-5. I don't have exact dates yet but if someone says they want to go ill meet them. Rausch creek isn't too far from there so if anyone knows of a meet there I would be interested too!
