Pioneer 4200: Maestro for Uconnect or PAC RP4?

Hello all. I posted this in the Communications section but it seems this section gets much more traffic. I've done some searching on this but still unsure which direction I should go.

I'm getting ready to order a new 2017 JKU (Willys W) and I plan to get the stock 130 radio with the Alpine speaker upgrade. Then I want to replace the 130 with the Pioneer 4200NEX for Android Autoplay and Apple Carplay. I also want to have a backup camera wired in.

I found a local installer who can put everything in (I'm not that kind of guy), but he normally works with the PAC unit. Yet it seems through my research that the Maestro unit is very popular with many people. I've read one of the big advantages of the Maestro is the ability to retain Uconnect.

So some questions..is the Maestro really more flexible? Do I really want to retain Uconnect? Honestly don't know much about it. I've read a lot of problems with Uconnect but others seem to really like it. What exactly does it give me?

Also, can I keep my factory mic or will I have to have the installer put one in with the Pioneer and use both??

Sorry for all the questions...I'm definitely not an expert with this stuff and I know there is a wealth of information here.

Thanks.

I just put in a 4200 NEX with a backup camera in my 2016 JKU. Like you, I just had the 130 radio since I knew I was going to upgrade to the Pioneer. I had the installer include the Maestro, which I like since it can monitor tire pressure right on the screen as well as other vehicle info. I didn't order Uconnect so I can't speak to that. But it seemed to me that it would be a redundant system, so I didn't order it when I was having my jeep built. You will enjoy the 4200 NEX. Good luck!

I have the 6200nex with PAC. I was able to retain all steering controls. Voice recognition turned to Siri but that's all. No more waiting for the annoying uconnect prompt when someone calls. Speed sensors were retained as well since my unit displays vehicle speed as well as speed limit (6200).

Thanks for all the input guys!

So sounds like no one is really using Uconnect any more, even if they could still use it?

If that's the case, seems like the differences between the Maestro and PAC are even less. I heard something about tire pressure display from ODB2? Is that available with both PAC and Maestro?

Maybe I should just get the Maestro any way and find an installer who is more familiar with it...

Thanks again.

4200 only has 2 camera inputs. On for the rear and then the other for what ever you want. I bought a back up camera and wired it up to turn on when the reverse lights come on. If I wanted to do the front I would hook it to a constant power supply to turn off and one when I felt like it

To resurrect an old thread, I'm embarking on the same thing as many of you. I'm replacing my 130 with a Pioneer AVH 4200NEX. I plan to do away with Uconnect and use the Pioneer for all Bluetooth, phone integration, and voice commands (Siri via Apply Carplay). I have all my hardware now and have flashed my Maestro online. Today or tomorrow I plan to solder the wiring harness between the Maestro and the Pioneer head unit. And then this weekend I'll embark on installing the head unit and custom backup camera. It's a lot to do, but it's all relatively straightforward when broken down into manageable chunks...or at least it seems that way right now. Wish me luck. Any tips?
