I've got a few filled in cracks on my 2011 but the pitting is the real problem. During a heavy rain storm it makes it difference in being able to clearly see. There are no officials ways to address the issue or resolve it. While the hood protectors don't do anything about rocks, I'm not rethinking about getting one to see if it helps with the pitting windshield and then getting an new windshield.
All my Jeeps had pitted windshields as does my 9 month old JKUR, the recent heavy winds here in Colorado would pit any windshield even sitting still. I do remember replacing the windshield on my CJ...all of a sudden I could see. Get used to it, same as the rocks hitting the door hinges
If it is only pitted be happy. I bought our Jeep in August. Our windshield is cracked along the bottom, 2" up from side to side and yes cracked, rock battered windshields are common on Wranglers.
Had mine a week as of Wednesday and watched my windshield crack from right to left a couple inches up. Turned on the defrost in my garage and heard a crack. Looked up to see the crack make its way across right in front of my eyes. Took it to the dealer who submitted photos for warranty repair. Fingers crossed.
The w/s glass used in all auto production today is the crap poor quality. This keeps the glass companies in business. The vertical w/s on the Jeep is a magnet for super slab sand blasting. Its a shame and a sham that w/s are manufactured in such poor quality, but they are. Keeps insurance companies in business, glass companies in business, installers in business.
Its pretty easy to see that w/s and glass companies don't want high quality w/s they want repeat customers. I owned a 2007 FJ Cruiser and replaced two w/s in it. I asked the installer at the time which make cars had the worst w/s glass. He said all the glass is poor, but that Nissan has terrible issues with w/s glass in his experience.
Thats my take….so when my w/s gets a crack, yes it will suck, but I will get it replaced.
