Planning a Trip to Colorado

Alright guys I need some help. A couple buddies and I are planning a trip to Colorado in a couple weeks, we plan on leaving the 18th. We have some friends in Denver so we will be staying there a few nights. We are taking the Jeep and plan on hitting some mountain trails. So... What are some good places to go around Denver.. We may bring the camping gear so driving a little ways out of Denver is no big deal. I want to find some good trails in the mountains, even thinking about heading to Telluride. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.. And of a course I shall take many pictures and document the trip!

Go to Ouray. Telluride is a far better and cooler town but most trails are near Ouray. There are several all over, but that area is stunning. I also like the trails near Breckenridge, though have not done that many. Just go to Ouray and spend a few days there.

Lake county around Leadville is a great area to explore. The famous 10th Mountain Division of WWII trained at Camp Hale about 15 miles north of Leadville. This remotely located valley offers camping, numerous moderate and easy trails, and if you are really adventurous, the Holy Cross City 4x4 trail will test any Jeep... if you are not certain if your Jeep is up for a very difficult trail, I'd recommend staying in camp.

We are currently at Mile-Hi Jeep Club's All-4-Fun near Leadville. Check out these Facebook photos if you have time get a feel for the area...

Lost Canyon

Ptarmigan Pass

Wheeler Lake
