Planning my 2014...Upgrade Alpine to Kickers?

I have a 2012 with the Infinity based stereo setup and upgraded the front and rears with the Kicker speakers. A lot of us did this and it improved sound quality for a pretty low price and although a little bit of a PITA to do the dash was an easy upgrade.

I haven't listened to the newer setup in a 13 with the Alpine setup. Is it better than the Infinity and you guys aren't doing the Kicker upgrade or is it still pretty common to upgrade to the kickers for an improvement?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know to do it right and get 'good' sound you have to do more than that but like said for the low price on the Infinity setup you could get a nice improvement from the Kickers.

I have the alpine in my 13....I had the infinity in my 09....the infinity for sure sounded better with a stronger bass response .....maybe the alpine just needs more time to break in??....have 2000 miles on the 13 as of yesterday...

Agreed 100%. My wife has the Infinity in her 12, I have Alpine in my 13. I think the Alpine sounds like pure crap compared to her Infinity.

Consensus is that the Infinity sounds better than the Alpine... should go search in the Comm & Elec section.

You should get the speakers you want (that will fit), not just one brand. I've always liked Kicker subs, but never thought there coaxials were that great. Seems most are putting the Polk's in there. Of course, the upgrades are always Price vs Performance, so it's a decision the person must make. Keep in mind if you are keeping your stock amp I'd get very efficient speakers as that thing is very weak.

I have a base system and almost anything I put in there will sound better than the tiny magnet/paper woofer P.O.S I have in there now.

I have a 2013 JKU with the premium Alpine setup (sub in back). It sounded terrible and I couldn't even hear the sub. After much investigation, the Jeep's HU (head unit) only puts out 2 ohms. Same with the speakers. If you replace the speakers and do nothing more, you are not going to get a great sounding system. I took out all 7 speakers. Guess what, the only speaker that said Alpine on it was the bass speaker. I have no clue who made the others. I replaced all 7 speakers with some very top end speakers, along with putting in a 5 chan amp and a PAC. The speakers are 4 ohm. The system is incredible. If you are really into having a system that ROCKS, then replace everything and do it the correct way. You don't have to replace the HU, but you need to get an amp and better speakers that are 4 ohm and use a PAC. There are many threads on this forum including one of mine that lists exactly what speakers and other stuff I used. I was just on a run 2 days ago and someone complained about their system. I showed him mine, turned it up to about 50% which is incredibly loud, and there is no distortion or cracking, you can hear the highs and the lows including the sub. He is going to get the same system I put in. I did it myself, but a good shop should be able to do it for around $1,000 - $1,200 depending on the speakers and amp you get. Just my thoughts.

I have a 13 with the alpine package.

I also have changed out the speakers. And filled all speaker cavities with polyfill.

The difference is night and day. Don't regret it at all. Can actually hear all the vocals and guitars now.

With that said.... will I upgrade the sub and add a amp later.. most definitely. I want a much louder system with much more bass.

Btw speakers I used were mtx tdx65 6.5"s front and rear. Don't limit yourself to kicker. Much better brands out there. Some even cost less because your not paying for the "plug and play" feature. But if you buy the adapters and wire harness its plug and play.

Just watch your mounting depths. Keep it under 2.25".

Mtx setup with brackets and harnesses cost me 180 Canadian
Kicker 77kick10 setup to Canada was around 230-290 shipped and I still would have paid duty.

So yes, there's plenty options out there for you.

Good stuff guys. I honestly don't want a high end system (did that years ago...$13,000 into my system alone lol....yeah, I was an idiot). But I am pissed at the fact that I paid $400 for the Alpine system (it came in the OM, I didn't pick it). I expected it to sound better than something picked up at Radio Shack for under $30.

Luckily, things aren't that expensive... can swap everything on a budget and get 10x the sound quality. "Premium" system is junk.

This ^ is why I buy things in the US, have them sent for free to an address in Detroit and go pick them up when they arrive. Declare at the border... "Have a nice day". Haven't paid shipping or taxes yet
