Just thought I would post my experience.

Dipped the wheels last year about September. Bought one can for each wheel, then labeled each can to each wheel so I didn't mix em up. Used as much as I could until the can started spitting. Used alcohol on spray nozzle to keep it clean. Pulled wheels off to spray, used quarters in lug holes.

First mistake sort of, sprayed from about 18" away. It gave it a textured look which I didn't mind just it holds dirt.

Second mistake, drove vehicle about 45 minutes after being done and I think a little got thrown off.

It was time to take it off. I'm thinking of moving to 16" wheels and I want to try it once more too.

The take off...had a friend just do this, he had his on a little less time and said it was a severe pita. So I did some research on YouTube. Saw a guy spray his wheels down w wd-40 and power wash. Worked good. Saw another guy use Black Magic tire wet, sprayed on and wiped off. V effective. So I removed what was left on the antennae and it came off well using black magic.

Off to the carwash w the black magic. Sprayed on all wheels, waited a few. Took my finger to it and it had become gelatinous. Turn on the wash and nothing. Power sprayer did absolutely nothing. %&$# washed the jeep and when I got done it was still the same way. Went grocery store, drove home in the rain, made dinner, ate and then came back out to it. Still soft, v black. Put my fingernail to an edge and it came rt off in that spot. Couldn't only peelblittle spots. Thought I would scrape it off, didn't work so well. Took a paper towel and started using that.once it started to come off a little I just kept slidinding the paper towel on it and the dip just rolled in on itself and had a wheel done in about 10 minutes. Took a rag sprayed it w black magic and cleaned the little specs left. I think waiting that time I ate made the dip resolidify a bit and it was easier than wiping black ooze off. I had pieces instead of a bunch of muddy type stuff.

That's my story, hope it helps. I will use this method again.

How did you prep the wheels before you sprayed? Something doesn't seem to be adding up.

Cleaned and wiped down w alcohol.

How many coats did you have with each can? On the bright side - looks like the limited time they were on there, they were very durable! I think after the last coat goes on I would just put it back in the garage for 24 hours before I drive it.

My steps I used are similar but any discrepancies may offer some benefit.

I pulled each wheel off and cleaned them with hot soapy water. After they dried in the hot Florida sun I let them cool in the shade for about 30 minutes. I went over with a dry towel to pick up any residual moisture.

I started my coats very light from about 10" away. My first coat was light enough that you could very easily still see the metal below. I feel that the first few coats are the most important as these are the ones that can run the easiest. Coats two and three all still allowed for metal to be seen with the third being barely visible. Starting with coat 4 I went heavier on the application but always aware of keeping my application in movement. Running is much less likely when its dip over dip. But if you hesitate it can still occur. I applied an entire can to each wheel and it totaled around 8-10 coats of dip. As I said....1-3 were pretty light so all said and done its probably 6-7 actual coats total. I also gave each coat about 10-15 minutes of dry time between them.

I have done four sets of wheels and removed all but the first set (sold that car) and 2 and 3 were able to be pulled off by hand without much issue. Number 4 is on my current Jeep. Only the small, hard to reach corners that had light coats had issue. A microfiber towel helps tremendously!

When I dipped my stock rubi wheels I just prepped with lacquer thinner and a rag. Taped off the back side. I sprayed them like I was painting. One, thick, run free coat. It came out VERY smooth with a nice matte finish. When it was time to take it off it just peeled right off. Plasti-dip was on the wheels for almost a year.

When I dipped my wheels I did 6 coats, starting off very light and then doing the last two coats quite thick. I've had them on for a few months now, and been wheeling a few times and so far they are holding up very well.

Check YouTube for tutorials on dipping wheels and you'll be fine when it comes time to remove it. :iamhappy:
