Plastic Cover On Top Of Engine

Jeepers, does anyone know if removing the plastic cover on top the engine is detrimental? I would think that it would help airflow around the engine. I just had the driver's side head replaced on my 2012 Jeep Wrangler. I also don't see any foam by the head as well.

These issues may have been raised in a previous thread(s), so could someone please enlighten me?

Second mod I did after I got mine home. Get rid of the plastic cover. Serves no purpose that I know of, save to restrict air flow. I swear I got 5 mpgs out of that mod.

BTW, the first was turning the rearview mirror over. I actually did that on the test drive. The sales person thought that was awesome and was going to recommend it to all future buyers.. LOL

The cover helps keep your engine a lot cleaner up top....in the snow belt states it helps keep the road salt/slime off your engine.

Really? With the interior fender skirts I dont get too much stuff up there, especially that would come down from above the plastic cover. I dont live in a snow belt state, but get a lot of slush and ice and stuff in VA.

Have to keep an eye on that.

Not to hijack the thread, but if you rotate the rearview mirror 180 degrees, it gives you a lot better view out of the back.

NOTE: DO NOT DO THIS ON THE NEWER 2013 with the map light... it is likely to break something.

Haha! I was wondering how the mod was possible on the '13.
