Only thing I can think of is that on cold cold winter days it may help hold engine heat in a little better while idling... Though the difference I'm sure would be negligible

The dealer forgot to put mine back on during my last visit. And I do mean LAST visit with them. Engine noise will be a little noisier as I found out. I knew something was wrong until I popped the hood when I got home. But it's drivable

I believe it just acts as a sound dampener, though I think I get a vibration under load from mine.

Had the same thing happen. Had them replace water pump and when I opened the hood the cover was missing...had them go scrounge one up. Lazy mechanics!

If you have a 3.8 it's not an issue.

It shields the engine block from neutrinos and UV-D rays.

If I remember, I take it/them off in the summer. It's as hot as the sun underneath it and that black plastic intake manifold is probably a bit grateful with it removed. It does dampen the sound a bit, but some models have hood insulation.

I also removed the foam at the back by the firewall as well as pulled the foam that's under the intake plenum.

Do you think the foam under the intake is for sound or some kind of heat control?

My opinion is it's a dress up piece and probably has some sound insulation. One thing it does is traps heat over the intake manifold (one thing you want cool). In real cold weather that's probably not a bad thing but in hot weather when you're slow moving, like off road and there is minimal air circulation under the hood, that manifold is baking. I have hood louvers (Poison Spyder) and I will take that cover off when it's hot to give the manifold a chance to shed some heat. It's such a easy off and on, why not give the motor a break.

both are for sound - the foam and the plastic part. the plastic part is also cosmetic.

I don't think my engine compartment EVER looked that clean, even the day I got it from the dealer.

I keep mine on....I don't want to void my warranty.

Actually, the silly tech that changed my oil didn't even bother to put the thing on correctly. I opend my hood and it was just laying there crooked....jack ass.....

I would normally change my own oil, but the dealer does it for about $15.00....oil and filter, tax included. Hard to beat that....

Ah, Panther... this is Exactly why I do the oil change myself. That same jack ass went careening around the hood in your Jeep, playing the radio, adjusting the seats etc.

Pay the extra $7, open a cold beer, and revel in the messless joy of the Jeep paper oil filter change.
