Poison Spider Diff Covers

I have a set of these bomb shell diff covers and like them. I installed them with a set of lube lockers and everything went smooth. I have a question about the fill hole. I noticed after having them on for a few months that around the fill hole bolt always looked wet. I went and tightened the bolt and cleaned around the area, and again a few weeks later I see it wet again. Can I just take the bolt out and put on some plumbers tape..? I am thinking the gear oil is coming out from the threads.

Anyone run into this issue? It is doing it on front and rear covers. No other leaks around the diff cover just around the fill hole bolt.

Jeep is a 16-JKU Rubi.

I have a set of PS diff covers and lube lockers sitting in my garage waiting for install before wheeling season starts up here in NY. I can't be any help, but I am interested in the responses.

Mine aren't wet and don't leak. Something sounds fishy.

I will take a closer look at them this weekend. Pretty sure I have some plumbers tape laying around and will put that on there just for safe measure.

1. Is plumber's tape "teflon tape"?
2. If I pull out that plug, will gear oil leak out, or is the fill line below the plug?

1. Yes

2. It might. the factory overfills them a bit. The fill line is the bottom of the fill hole.

Pretty much all of the aftermarket diff covers are like that. You need to either use tape or tighten the crap out of them. Same thing with my Ruffstuff covers.

I'm pretty sure the documentation that comes with the bombshells recommends plumbers tape. Anyway, that's what I've done with mine. No leaks.

The PDF linked above implies that the plug is a pipe thread. In that case it's definitely gonna need either teflon tape or pipe thread sealant to properly seal.

I pulled them out yesterday and added plumbers tape Also cleaned everything up. Mine never came with any directions, but was an easy 5 min fix.

Thanks,

Ken~
