Poor(ish) College Student

Just got my 2011 Hardtop Jeep Sahara Unlimited two weeks ago.. A gift from the parents for my full-ride scholarship! (The Wrangler was still cheaper than my college's tuition for one year lol).

Although they got me the vehicle, I am responsible for paying for all the mods I want to do for my Wrangler and I currently have around $350 saved up... What would be the best thing I could do with that amount of money? Would it be better to save until a certain amount and do something a little more expensive but a lot cooler?

I probably won't be doing too much off-roading and am mainly going for what would be functional/look good.

save up more, but spend few bucks and put some polyfil in your sound bar. as another poor-ish college student, these jeeps can be expensive.

Buy your parents something nice as a "thank you".

There's a sticky up at the top of the main JK page with a ton of cheap mods. Check it out. You'll have more ideas than you know what to do with.

Plastidip and spray paint are some of the cheapest things you can buy and lots of mods can be done with it.

And then you'd still have money left to take Mom and Dad to dinner.

+1 on that! Doesn't cost much to send a meaningful gift..

And of course read the cheap mods thread..

Other than that.. gas is expensive, I'd say put that money into the gas fund and drive it!

An excellent idea and more longlasting value for the money than any mod

Definitely get you parents a nice thank you, as much as them shipping you far away for months at a time is a great gift, get the tickets to a show with dinner, then over the next gew months get to know you jeep and she will tell you what she needs and should give you tine to save up more. But if you really want to spend it on your jeep look for some side armor. You dont want someone else denting your ride by opening their door.

Save about $3000.00.

That should get you in the market for bumpers, budget lift or a small lift and maybe tires and wheels.

Congratulations on your scholarship and getting a JeeP!
I agree with buying your parents a thank you gift. I would recommend saving the rest for a while and learn your jeep it will tell you a lot then decide what you need to do to it.

I'm assuming that parents will be picking tab for insurance? Otherwise save up for that.

I'd also save up for tuition if they are not picking up the tab for that after the scholarship if it isn't for the first year.

Unless your a blue chip jock you must have stuck your nose to the grind stone to get a full ride. Congrats!

As others have said, take a chunk of that cash as show your folks some appreciation. Then take the rest in stick it in your poor wallet.

Modifying Jeeps is an expensive hobby. Drive your Jeep for a good while before so you can decide where you really pour in your cash. If your as smart as most guys with full academic scholarship you will save your big spending days for after your college graduation.

Enjoy your Jeep!
