Poor Packing Led To This Damage

Man am I aggravated. Received an order today from a vendor for Mopar Enhanced Rock Rails. You know how the anticipation of a new mod is and how I couldn't wait to get home to see it. Well, it arrived with one cardboard box on each end and taped in the middle. The rails were each wrapped in loose plastic. There was a catalog and the hardware to install. There was absolutely NO packing material whatsoever inside. The rails were free to slide around and bang into each other. Surprise surprise, they came damaged. Who ever the Einstein was who thought sending it this way was good should at a minimum be reprimanded. I will contact customer service tomorrow (closed now). Now I am probably going to have to find a large box and pack it properly myself so they can pick it up. Then, I will have to wait for another one to be shipped (of course with a holiday around the corner) all while I am charged AGAIN and have to wait for a refund for the damaged item. I MAY consider hitting them with bumper spray paint but part of me thinks why the hell should I have to pay good money and deal with this? I know shit happens, but this to me is an unacceptable way to send product out to customers. Thanks for letting me vent.

I'd be mad and I'd make sure they know it, but I'd probably repaint them myself with bedliner before going to the trouble of shipping them back and waiting several weeks or longer for replacements.

That sucks. If it were me, I would have them expedite me a replacement because as anal as I am, I would know about the imperfections even though they've been fixed and no one else notices.

Careful, the mods will get you for complaining about vendors and their idiotic business practices.

I don't blame you one bit. Its happened to me too many times. With the price of these upgrades you think they would package them better. Your just going to have to wait to hear what customer no service can do for you (and be sure to send them picks). Then decide weather of not its worth hitting up with some spray. I'm like you, like to get it new and patch up MY abuse later.

Same thing happened to me. I called and they offered $50 bucks back so I took the money and touched them up. Mine weren't nearly as bad as yours , but it's your call. I just don't get why they can't use the right amount of packing. Here is the box I got mine in.

Yeah, that is why I didn't name the vendor.

They price matched another site but charged what the other site charged for shipping (was still cheaper than their price without shipping). I may ask for the shipping ($95) back and paint them. Not sure yet.

I had the same problem ordering from ABC. After dealing with an inaccurate timeline for the shipment, missing parts once the order arrived, and then scuffed up parts due to poor packaging, I just painted them myself and completed the installation. I couldn't bare another unkept promise. Good luck brother.

I thought I'd be smart and I found a set of rails I liked and called the local 4WP to have them order the rails to be delivered to the store. Well, I went to pick them up and the guys said the box looked great and they would bring them out for me in a minute. So, I bring the Jeep around to load them and they bring them out and they are wrapped in foam out of the box. They said it's easier that way to carry them. Ok, made sense. I gave the foam a quick check and it looked good so I load them up and go home. Once home and unloaded, I find the rails had been laying on eachother too close, or maybe even dropped while in the box. The bolts for the side holes are belt on one and threads smashed, and on the other there are gouges missing in the powdercoat where those bolts hit it. I find more damage like that on both and when nested together again like they would have been in the box, all the points match up. Each rail also had damage to the ends, bad enough it was through to the bare metal. Now the foam did show some damage too, but it was turned over and retaped when I saw them.

I called 4WP and they had me bring them back to take a look. They put an order in for another set, and sprayed painted the ones I had and then let me use them until the new set arrived. I wasn't going to beat them up a that time frame, I bought the rails more for parking lot protection than rocks because I had to go to Chicago for a few weeks. When I got back I went back to 4WP and swapped them for the new set - which was in good condition and still in the box when I arrived. When I took off the rails they were showing a bit of rust under the spray paint where the chips were, so I'm glad they swapped them out.

It was a headache to do, but everything worked out in the end.

That is shoddy packaging and hope the vendor makes it right! That said, they are rock rails. First time you scrape them across a nice big rock and bring the Jeep down on them, they are gonna look way worse lol! But at least those dings will be self-inflicted.

Just got off the phone with customer service. The rails came from a logistics warehouse other than their local warehouse. The guy agreed that is no excuse and once he saw the pictures he said I shouldn't have to paint new rails that I paid for. He said you might still see indentations even if painted. There is a possibility the package was damaged along the way and the shipping company tried to "fix it". He couldn't imagine it would come from the manufacturer like that and said the stuff typically isn't packaged at the logistics warehouse. What ever happened, he was willing to next day a new set without charging me for them since they will probably file a damage case with the shipping company. Problem is that due to July 4th, next day would get it here Monday (Fedex doesn't do Saturday for next day). I am away Monday - Thursday, of course, so I didn't want the package to sit outside for 4 days. So, he is sending them next day on Wednesday so I will have them when I come home. The only thing that sucks is now I have to wait another week for something that should already be on my Jeep. Not even sure if Fedex is going to want the damaged rails back or just reimburse the vendor (according to him). We will see. Overall, not the worst thing in life, but certainly frustrating at that. I guess patience is a virtue... that I NEVER had.

Glad to hear they are making right! If they file a damage claim with the shipper, I suspect they will come calling for the evidence. No hate from me if you dont offroad-you are as much a member of the Jeep family as anyone who does.

Thanks. The rep said sometimes Fedex doesn't want to go through the hassle of dealing with the damaged product and it is easier to just refund the vendor. We'll see. I may have a slightly damaged set of rails for sale in the near future lol.

Just got off the phone again with the vendor. I looked up and it seems that Fedex does Saturday with priority overnight (he was mistaken). They are shipping today and I should have them Saturday. Hopefully they arrive safe and sound. Very happy with the vendors attitude and assistance. This experience will not stop me from using them in the future.

I try to only buy from Brick-N-Mortar stores. It's better to pick it up your self, when you can. Problem with product, point it out right then and there. I've gotten so many damaged goods delivered that I now call UPS OOPS!

Alright, someone please shoot me already. I look up the tracking number with fedex and it is set to be delivered Monday. MONDAY?????? Fedex said even though priority overnight, the seller needed to request Saturday delivery. WTF????? He said that they can call fedex and request it now but it is no guarantee. So my package will now be sitting outside for 4 days which is what I was trying to avoid. I blame the shipper on this one. They should know the rules of the shipping company they use, no matter how stupid the rule may sound. Soooo, I am on hold now with the vendor (after almost everyone has left for the "holiday weekend", waiting to find out if anything can be done. What a fu*&in nightmare. Really, I am beyond pissed.

Edit: vendor said the shipper may be able to get it here Saturday as long as it gets to the hub in time. They can't do anything while it is in route. They are supposed to call the vendor back with an update later and I have to call the vendor back later for an update. This is just unfreakingbelievable. Should it really be this difficult to have something get to my house from a few states over on time and in good condition? The fun continues.

Well, of course it didn't arrive on Saturday. It was delivered on Monday (what I was trying to avoid). I left for vacation the day before. It got delivered Monday 10:11 am. I had someone taking care of my pets stop by in the afternoon and evening and no package to be found. I was furious and upset to think it was stolen as this would be the first time that has happened. There was a call tag left by the side of my house. I spent a lot of time on the phone with fedex (on vacation with the family mind you) and we figured out what happened. Fedex had issued a call tag to pick up the one they originally damaged, without notifying me about this. I had no box to pack it in since they destroyed it. I was going to use the box from the replacement one sent out to do that but obviously being away, couldn't do that yet. Some Einstein fedex driver stopped by my house, after the express guy dropped it off, and took back the package thinking it was the damaged one. You heard me right, fedex picked up the package they delivered only a few hours earlier.

Since yesterday I have been on the phone NUMEROUS times and as of yet it hasn't been located. Everytime I call, I go through the same type of bull shit of having to update someone and try to get this resolved. So, the vendor got paid, my package got delivered, it got picked up, and now it is in some black hole because ground picked it up and express has to communicate with ground, and I paid for something I still don't have. I have never met a business that is so incompetent. If I ran my business like this I wouldn't have one. I will do my best to NEVER use Fedex again as well as ANY vendor that has them as their shipping company.

First off, FedEx should have known that wasn't the pickup if the driver would have bothered to scan it. And trying to get away from FedEx is going to be tough. Your whole issue is a symptom of the way business gets done.

Lot's of internet companies don't carry stock. They Don't ship anything. They sell stuff that gets drop shipped from the manufacturer or from a central warehouse that many retailers have access too. Those places along with many businesses that do carry inventory use whatever shipping company is cheapest. Some do prefer on or the other but many, especially those that don't carry inventory, choose the shipper with the best price.

That's also why the boxes are beat up sometimes. My TF lift came was dropped shipped from TF and it was pristine. My Rancho shocks came from Amazon and the boxes looked like they had been to war and back. These shipping warehouses probably don't even know what's in the boxes half the time so they have no idea how to treat the item. Plus, they just store and ship the item so what do they care. They didn't make it. Their name isn't on it.

I order a lot of stuff from Amazon. I couldn't tell you who will show up to deliver it. Sometimes, I've had UPS and FedEx at my house on the same day delivering different items from the same order.

Even so, I wouldn't be happy and I'd be looking for a refund of shipping costs if you haven't already got one. Why carry around those little computers if you aren't going to use them?

Dude are ya'll serious here? These are rock sliders correct. They are supposed to get banged up and take a beating. He's what i would do and what i have done in the past. Go to Walmart or lowes, get a can of black spray paint, and spray these sliders entirely so the color matches. Wait for them to dry and then bolt them on. You did buy a jeep to take it off the city streets and highways right? Thats what these vehicles are made for to go places where other cars and trucks cant go. The more and more i read threads like this makes my stomach ache because to many guys and gals out there are too worried about keeping their jeeps (kid haulers/grocery getters) pretty and waxed up. Get real man these are rock sliders, they are supposed to touch rocks at some point in their existence.

Somebody had to say it. Instead everyone else is fueling this guys fire and its just pathetic.
It's not pathetic. Personally, I wouldn't care if this happened to a Jeep part for the same reason you don't. But if it happened to a part for my Porsche, I'd send it back without thinking twice.

And because your next comment was going to be, "But a Wrangler's not a Porsche," I'll go ahead and say that Porsches make the best endurance race cars you can buy; as such they get banged up and covered in dirt and tire rubber. So why should I care if the parts on my street Porsche look good or not? I mean, it ought to be on track every Saturday and Sunday swapping paint in PCA club races, right? Right?

Hahaha I get the same thing from people. "When are you going mudding? When are you hitting the trail? Jeep Jamboree this weekend, you going?" 'I' bought 'my' Wrangler and I'll do with it as I see fit. If someone wants to turn theirs into a rock crawling rig just for looks, then so be it. I'm not going to tell anyone what they should do with their Wrangler. I don't want a Wrangler that looks like every other stock Wrangler, I want to give it my own artistic license.
