Question Premium Soft Top

Going to be ordering a new Jeep in the next week and the only thing I'm not sure of is the choice of soft tops. Is the premium soft top worth the extra $350. The only thing I have heard bad with the premium top is that is collects debris in the cloth fabric. I like the look of the premium top better and it is real real quiet compared to my old yj top. Have not been able to find a 2015 with the standard top to test drive and see how quiet it is. Any opinions.

It's defiantly worth the extra money. It is much quieter than the standard top and I like the look of it. I actually find it easier to get stuff off of than the old standard top was.

I'm happy with my standard top, I couldn't justify an extra $350 I've had no problems my top. And I've gotten lots of compliments on my jeep and not once did someone say "to bad you didn't get the premium top" I've got no leaking, no excessive wind noise and saved a chunk of change for mods.

Yep, worth twice that extra$-IMO.

It's that much better.. construction-wise (beefier material), sound-wise (much quieter), appearance-wise (just look at it!), interior wise (it's black!!), etc...

I have the premium, and it is worth every penny!

Just remember to use a convertible top soap and protector when washing it and keeping it clean will be a breeze. (twice a year)

Bird dropping leave absolutely no spot on it. You wait for it to dry, it will "flake off" and a humid towel with absolutely no pressure will take care of whats left. Really easy to keep clean!

Well worth it IMO
I have 2012 which came with regular top and then bought premium top new online.
The spring assist is worth it especially with 4dr. It's quieter and looks great too.

Thanks for the replies and I was not expecting an overwhelming vote for the Premium top. Now it just a battle to get the best price. Thanks

A guy at work that parks in the same parking lot and the same 2013 commando Green 4dr Sahara as mine except he got the black leather and standard top and I got the Dark Saddle & Premium top. He asked me how I got my seats & where I got my top. I told him that I ordered my Jeep and chose the Dark Saddle for the same price and paid $300 for the Premium top upgrade. He was pissed that the Dealership had not mentioned any of this when he bought his. He is OK with his black interior but likes the Dark Saddle, but he is really jealous of the premium top.

I also have a 100lb Bernese Mountain Dog that rides in the back. Anyone that knows dogs know that BMDs are notorious for shedding lots & lots of fur. I have no problems with the fur clinging to the soft top. The Ozite carpeting in the back... now that is a fur catcher.

I did treat my soft top last summer with the 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. I bought another bottle this spring with the intention of doing it again this summer, but so far, the soft top still beads and sheds water just fine so I might just skip the treatment this year since summer is almost over. I remove my soft top somewhat early in the season because Moose Hunting season starts in less than a month and we are starting to get things ready next weekend. So I prefer to have my hard top in all the gravel and dusty roads plus the lift gate is way more functional to get stuff in and out.

I just bought a brand new premium soft top off of Craigslist for $750 & I absolutely LOVE it! I still have my Trextop NX for when I go off-roading, but the premium top is going to be my everyday top. Not sure how much the dealership charges for them on a new Jeep, but when my husband called to get a price on one, I believe it was over $1,500 & that was with his discount! It took me several months of searching on Craigslist to finally find one, but it was worth the wait

Thanks StarBrite, reading through the pages now but may take some time. Already have the 1% below invoice, but trying to do better as you did. Will post in the 2015 waiting room when I place my order.

Please forgive if this is a dumb question, but I am searching for a soft top for our Unlimited on Craigslist etc. How will be the easiest way to tell the premium top from standard top? I'm not sure the seller will always know. Will it be by part numbers, material type, etc? I've already realized not getting the soft top too was a mistake.

I believe the first sign will be a black interior side and tinted window panes. Maybe others can chime in if I'm wrong.

The black interior instead of gray is a sure sign. However, you can actually get a premium top with clear windows. Fairly rare, but I have seen them.

Yep the black interior would be the key, because you can get a standard top with tinted windows also. So window tint or lack of, isn't an indicator to which top is which. I imagine by the overwhelming response for the premium top it shouldn't be hard to tell the two apart. The premium even to a jeep novice I imagine just looks like a better quality top.

I have a premium soft top

I don't know what the protocol is. But I absolutely don't need the awesome premium soft that came with my unlimited rubicon x. My life requires a hard top and the only reason there is the premium soft top on my jeep is because IIt was what the dealer had and I am waiting another couple weeks for the hard top. If someone could help me get rid of it within the protocols of this forum of course. I don't want to cross any lines, just need help offloading my priemium soft top for a good price. As soon as my hard top is installed in a bit, it's available. It has had dealer weather protection from a Hawaii dealer so it's the real deal.

I found a guy with an unused OEM soft top on the local Craigslist last night off his '14 Sahara. I called him up and asked him if it was a premium top based on what I learned off Starbrite's sticky about soft tops and this thread. He says it is and I will be picking it up today. Thanks for the help wranglerforum community!

There is a For Sale section here where you can post your top. You just need to have 15 posts to your name. There's a how to in the For Sale Section to help you figure it all out.
