I have a 2013 with 1200 miles on it and have developed a rattle in the front passenger side bow of my premium soft top. It is really bad on the interstate. Went to the dealer today and the service tech told me if rattles bothered me I shouldn't have bought a soft top. Anyone have any ideas of how to adjust or tighten this?
Same here. Rattle above the passenger seat. Pushing up on the crossbar makes it stop. I can't see a difference between the driver side and the passenger side. I had my wife drive the Jeep while I looked and listened closely. I still was unable to find the source.
If pushing on the cross bar stops the rattle, you have confirmed that one of your rivets is loose
Bad news is that pushing on the crossbar with too much force makes the rivet loosen even more.
I've developed this on my '14 JKU with premium soft top. Passenger side same as everyone else. I'll check to see if I have play in the riveted joint this evening. Glad to see I'm not alone.
My 2010 unlimited has the same thing, I have so many other wind noises with my 37 mud grapplers I let it go but im almost certain its the latch ( why it doesn't happen on drivers side? but if you lift the top while moving and take the slack out of the roof for a minute it should go away, anyway I was going to look at that when time permits. Winter I run hard top and summer Bimini so not high priority
As expected, the dealer has been chasing its tail with this problem. First it was "my fault" for the spider shade making the rattle, took that off and went back. I have brought it in prob 5-6 times for it and they finally decided to take me serious that it was going to be coming back every chance I could until it was fixed.
They finally replaced the crossbar and It has fixed the problem for a couple days now. I can see no difference, but could shake bar and duplicate the rattle, and can no longer do that so hopefully it's fixed for real this time.
2013 JKU w premium sunrider top here. I have the same issue but now the hard top has been put back on. I've read in other threads this is somewhat common.
Took mine in dealer looked at me like I was crazy, told me there was nothing from jeep to address the issue of the top rattle, after leaving it there for a day for the recall fix with the tranny and power steering lines one of the techs told me he tightened all the mouldings and now the rattle has been gone for 2 days I still hear it going over certain bumps but its defintly not consistent like it was before on the highway and driving around town. If any body knows if there is a really a fix from jeep with documents to show dealer please let us know thanks
Had the same problem three times on a 100 mile trip last weekend. Took it in to te dealer an even took a drive with them, of course it wouldn't rattle then. Sounds like it was coming from right above the spot where the bow folds up for sunrises mode.

First you should tell the service tech that maybe you shouldnt have bought a Jeep from that dealer and maybe nobody else should either..thus leaving him unemployed.
Take it back ..make them fix it....he is a lazy you know what.
I feel like there is a fix as other people have had it done just that some dealerships really don't know what they are talking about or don't care .. Anyone with experience or that successfully had this fixed at a dealer with part numbers please let us know
i have '13 jkur with premium soft top. only time i hear anything is during severe cross wind. other than that it is great. and with spiderwebshade i swear its even quieter.
I don't believe there is a fix .. There was one person on here that said there was a kit from Chrysler to replace rivets with nuts and bolts but I have not been able to talk to anyone who has any idea about that ...the part that rattles is on the latch on the door surround not actually on the top it has lateral movement because it's loose ... I realized this when I removed the soft top for the winter I don't believe it has to do with the cross bow on the top . Still no fix found yet.
That is not a good solution, eventually that metal will give and go right back without the rivets or nuts/bolts holding it tight.
Here is my temp work around till I get to the dealer on Monday, they said they know about the problems. I just wrapped my soft straps around it tight, had to combine them but it does keep it quit now.
Siggy, when you contacted the dealer they said they new about the fix for the rivets? If so can you make sure you get a part number or something I can show my dealer so they can figure it out ? Thanks in advance .. Also that is a pretty good idea with the straps I didn't think of that
There is nothing different to take a pic of, but according to my service records what finally fixed my problem was them replacing "#2 Crossbar". This was after numerous trips in. It was done prob a month ago and still no rattle...
So they actually replaced the whole cross bar ? Do you notice if it is any different than the original one ? I'm nervous this one will just loosen up and rattle as well that is what happened with the first one .. Thanks for the info
Yes thats what I was told and what the reciept says. I didnt really pay attention to the old one to notice a difference or not. It's been a while and still not making any noise so knock on wood.
