I have a 2013 with 1200 miles on it and have developed a rattle in the front passenger side bow of my premium soft top. It is really bad on the interstate. Went to the dealer today and the service tech told me if rattles bothered me I shouldn't have bought a soft top. Anyone have any ideas of how to adjust or tighten this?
I went to the dealership today and they said the same thing, a new improved crossbar, they ordered the part and I have to wait till it comes in for them to replace it.
Would any of you who has or are getting the replacement, be willing to post a picture of your receipt? That way I can actually show it to them so I can get this fixed next spring.
What I did was folded up a paper towel put it over the top of that center blade on the rail that the top straddles in the channel. I have the hardtop on now but in the spring I plan on buying some felt with adhesive on one side for a permanent fix.
Thanks for this. Second time I took the Jeep in for this issue, I brought this receipt and now I have a new #2 bow and screws/nuts replacing rivets. And more importantly no more rattle. The top is much tighter now.
My dealer is Carl Burger in San Diego. This was their first of this repair, but they should know what to do about it now.
thanks a lot i appreciate you posting the receipt, i will take it to the dealer and hopefully they can figure it out. just out of curiosity where are you located ? are you in new york ?
Lustine Jeep in woodbridge, they get a bad rep for their sales department but dont worry I worked them over But there service guy that knows wranglers is good.
so what hardware did they use to secure the new part? rivets? nuts and bolts? any pics of the repaired area and ... pics of replaced rivets or bolts? if they riveted the new part in, did they have to send it out to a custom fabric shop that normally does soft top work or did the repair monkey just drill out the rivets and use nuts and bolts he found in a "spares" section of his toolbox?
According to the tech they supply bolts and nuts with the crossbow, however it looks exactly the same from what I can see. But I tell you that crossbar is so much tighter then it use to be.
Siggy I am on the east end of Long Island which dealership do you know someone at? Maybe I could just take it there and have this done .. Any help is appreciated thanks
Lustine jeep/dodge in woodbridge is who fixed it. They are slick when it comes to sales if you are not smart. But the head wrangler guy knew right away, did not need to look it up or anything.
Figured I would post my quick temporary fix (I dropped it off to the dealership once, but they didn't fix it.....have to go back and show them exactly what I'm talking about). Anyway, mine is rattling on the passenger side right about the sound bar....coming from a loose rivet. I just tightly wrapped some string between the rods and it stopped the rattle...at least until I can get back to the dealership.
Thanks for posting your receipt, it'll definitely come in handy.
I don't mean to resurrect an old thread here, but I wanted to say THANKS! to all who have contributed to it. Had the same problem on my 2013, dealer couldn't figure it out, I showed em the pic of the receipt for the replacement bow, they ordered it, it's now fixed and quiet!
Without this forum and thread I'm sure it would have taken forever to get this resolved.
Could someone take some pics of the screws? I'm curious exactly which ones get replaced, just the #2 bow attachment points or all the rivets in that area. My (now former) service center told me to "turn up the radio", and "we found some keys on the back seat", to which I replied " give me my keys so you can get back to your muscle cars and mini-vans". I'll be contacting a real Jeep dealer next, not just a Chrysler dealer who happens to have a couple Jeeps on the lot.
Cool, thanks Zombicon. It looks like there is no danger of the bolts ever rubbing the fabric eh? I may just do this myself since getting to a competent dealer is a bit of a hassle for me.
glad i found this topic - a new soft top to be installed this spring and we had major rattle with our JKU '13 before we traded it in for the JKU '14 at the end of the model year. Hopefully when we go for a test ride in April the rattle won't exist. My brother-in-law has a JKU '14 and he has no such rattle. Appreciate all the tips and support.
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but did you guys who drilled out the rivets just use a nut and bolt? Do you remember what size bolt by chance?
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
