Hi all, would greatly appreciate some advice

I took delivery of my new '12 JKUS in mid december and I love it. About 3 weeks ago when we had some snow, I noticed a "ripple" in the reflection on my front passenger door, near the lower hinge. I'd describe it as a non-marked, non-creased 'depression" in the door, about 10 inches in height and broad enough to be not noticeable from most any angle. You see it when the Jeep reflects something light/bright.

Im guessing that this might be a depression caused by perhaps allowing the passenger door to swing open without the strap on - perhaps at the dealer or sometime before I took delivery. The Jeep hasnt been out of my sight, Im comfortable with the fact that it didnt happen when I drove it. I cant prove that of course, hence I havent gone back to the dealer about it. Its bothering me a lot because my drivers side door is perfect.

I drove by our local body shop, where our family has taken our cars for decades. Guy is nice enough and when he saw it he chalked it up to the way the door was rolled, which again, Im no expert, but my drivers door is perfectly flat.

I dont have any experience with paintless dent removal. However this looks like something that would almost "pop" out if handled properly. Should I consider bringing it to the dealer to see if their PDR person could fix it - I'd be willing to do it if it would turn out alright and not be expensive. If not, I live with it.

Keep in mind, this is something that when I showed my wife, she thought i was crazy...but, its definitely there and bugging the hell out of me!

Let your body shop try, the dealer isnt responsible because even if he did do it, before they handed you the keys you signed a paper saying you checked it over, personally I wouldn't worry about it

I wouldn't worry about it, when you drive around with the doors off, it'll be like it wasn't even there!

I wonder if you could pull the inner door panel off and push it out from the inside? I noticed the rear doors on my '12 push in really easily, I noticed it closing with the outer handle if you put any sort of pressure on the handle after its shut you'll get the oil can effect. Or even the cheap suction cup things they sell at autozone type stores to pull out dents. If the metal isn't creased I'd try it myself personally!

Id warm the area up good and try the suction cup thing. Sometimes even a good old fashioned toilet plunger will do the trick if its only a mild depression.

Pics?

. The Jk body is paper thin. Not the best paint/paint process. Agree-would not worry about it.

curious to know, did Dent Dave remove the dents using suction or did he have to take the door apart?

I tried an Autozone (Bondo) dent puller / suction cup. No dice.

The auto parts store kits don't work. I've had great luck with pdr for other vehicles and it always came out perfect. They may have to remove the inner panel to get to it depending on the location on the panel, but it will come out perfect. It's worth the $ if you want it done right. It's not expensive.

I noticed the same on my drivers door upper hinge. The sheet metal looks concave like the door swung out too far and the hinge kinda depressed into the sheet metal. The sheet metal is so thin I think that it's inevitable on all the doors eventually.

Take it wheeling and put some REAL dents in it. Then the door depression won't bother you so much!

Get some mud on it, too.

I would be concerned too.

Last night I parked at a hotel lot. This morning there was a Nissan something or other truck parked by the idiot owner at a 45 degree angle next to me. I spent 5 minutes looking at my sheet metal to be sure he didn't ding me.

Not all Jeep owners go out to purposely screw up their Jeep so that is not an option for me to justify having damaged doors.

Ok, so here's something weird. I was trying tonight to take a picture of the dent area, but its difficult to see unless there is something bright and reflective to photograph the jeep next to. As I said earlier, on snow outdoors on the driveway was how I discovered this in the first place. I figured I would try tomorrow with the reflection of my white house siding next to the Jeep. Because its new and red, (and shamefully not muddy) its really quite obvious. So then tonight I'm screwing around on YouTube checking out JK reviews and such and I come across a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited video review that jumps out at me because the JK is flame red. I watch it. About halfway through, I think I see a similar dent/depression on the passenger door behind the lower hinge on the JK in the video! At 2/3rds of the way through, I'm positive I do. I tried to screen-grab it, but it looked a bit hazy. Its between 2:48 - 2:50 on this video as the JK is rounding a left hander, and if you watch those 2 seconds a few times and look at the front passenger door after the lower hinge, and watch the scenery reflected in the door of the Jeep, you will see how the dent bends the reflection pretty easily.

I too have the same issue with my drivers side door, right behind the lower hinge.

It can be removed, at least to some degree. According to my technician from a company much like 'Dent Wizard' mentioned above ('Metal Menders') its most likely caused by the hinge being bolted to a brace/support bar inside the door there, coupled with the fact that the sheet metal is thin. My tech tried to remove it by utilizing one of his pushrods tools inside the door but stated he would have better luck by heating the tool with a torch first, which he did not have with him in his mobile unit that day. Going to make an appointment in the near future to give the heat thing a shot...

Another one

Just another person with the same exact issue- picked up my '12 JKU Sahara on 6 Jan and soon noticed the same 'indentation'- same door, same location. Believe its a manufacturing issue given the number of people with the same experience plus the fact that I know nothing has hit the door. I absolutely love the Jeep, but these quality control issues are really disappointing for $30k vehicles. Since pickup I've also had to have the stripping repaired on the top near the windshield and the UCONNECT module replaced. Note to anyone whose uconnect stops working with the 430N - don't let them swap the radio, the module is external and all a radio swap will do is potentially mess up your dash without fixing the problem. I'm working the door issue with the dealer- will report any success.

This door issue is frustrating but in some sense makes me less concerned about getting it fixed. Drove to the bagel store this morning and parked near a deep cherry red JKU and walked past it. Same issue on passenger door in same spot. I'm convinced this issue is not exclusive to mine and that I didn't damage it, nor did a door swinging open without the strap

Hey REd, I wouldn't sweat it. I was looking today, and it seems like my top passenger hinge was overtorqued or something. I guess I have the same thing. Maybe the black hides it more.

I noticed this on most of the Wranglers at my dealership when I was picking up mine. I think it is just the way the metal is stamped near the hinge. Some were worse than others though.

I had the same issue on my 2012 Rubicon. The problem is the lower support that is glued to the door. When the glue drys the support beam sucks the thin ass sheet metal in, creating a indentation.
I found the best paintless dent removal guy in my area and had him come out to fix mine. He used a tool that kind of look like a floor scraper and broke through the glue holding the sheet people.
Id say its about 95% gone... enough that I dont see it anymore because it was driving me crazy.

When the guys building your vehicle are stoned and wasted, can't expect the best quality. lol.

FYI.... I looked at ALL the Wranglers on my dealers lot and all had some sort of indentation at the lower hinge. Some were VERY noticeable others were very minor.
