Hi there! Just curious what my options would be to keep a spare tire/wheel from being stolen off the back of my soon-to-be Jeep? As soon as my new Rubicon shows, it will be getting some XD Series wheels with 35" Nitto tires. I got to pondering today & realized I will have a good bit invested in my spare that will be hanging fom the back. I would really hate to see it walk!
Should this be a concern? What is everyone else doing? Thanks.
Stinks folks have to take these precautions. I wish all states had property defense laws like Texas. If these scumbags kept getting shot maybe people would find something more honest to do.
Or they'd keep getting shot and that's fine too. Best type of criminal is a dead one.
If you wanted to be tried for murder and have your life ruined, go ahead and shoot someone for stealing your spare. There is no castle doctrine in any state that will protect you if you shoot someone in the act of stealing your spare. I am an avid defender of second amendment rights, but posts like yours really give us a bad name. You do not kill someone for stealing your spare and you do not shoot someone for any reason other than stopping the threat to your life or someone else's life.
So I've been following this thread and also wondering what this little key was next to my ignition key. I tried it in the console and it locked so I thought ok it's a key I can use in case my other key is in the ignition.
Then I remembered this thread and decided to take a closer look at my spare. Well apparently my dealership locked up my spare for me with a cable and a hefty looking lock. So I'm all set, unless that's just standard operating procedure and I am just unaware and I'll still need to lock it down.

That almost sounds like something the dealer added to prevent it from being stolen while it was sitting on their lot and they forgot to remove it after the sale.
My Jeep had a set of these: Wheel Lock - 82212567 | Mopar
On it from the dealer. I looked them up and they seem like a fairly good set. Key codes are exclusive to Mopar but I might add the Bolt Lock that you key to the ignition key as a secondary on the spare. An extra $40 is nothing compared to the almost $800 it would cost to replace it.
Wheel locks I bet. What's that company who makes locks that memorize your key? They have one. It's a great idea, only the JK key that locked it can open it.
I have a Bolt lug lock, but mainly I wanted to say that I love your spare tire cover. :happyyes:
