I drive a 2014 JKU Sahara, 6sp, and have been in beach sand dunes in New England that past couple of years. Yesterday was on the normal trail, and I had to hold the wheel almost 90 degrees to the right to keep the jeep going straight, While doing this, a horrible humming noise was happening.
I talso happened on the way back on the trail. Any thoughts? Jeep drove fine once back on the road. Tires were at 20 psi in sand.
Often times in sugar sand the wheel will be one side or another for the Jeep to go straight. The sound was probably the dry sand and tire contact.
Best you can do is:
-Air Down
-4Hi
-Make sure the traction control is Completely off (hold button for 7 seconds)
-Try and drive straight ahead
Assuming good tires usually no problem.
Thanks RubiconSS. I thought there was a real problem since this has not happened to me before.
Newb, it is East Beach in RI. Need a permit and beach pass as RI likes to pick your pocket at every turn. If out of state, they pick both your pockets.
Anytime Have Fun. I run the OBX upper beaches and they can be challenging especially on weekends "in-season". I run 18-20lbs in the tires (keeping in mind they are hot when I get to the beachhead) Then 4Hi, TC OFF and I shut things down (like AC) just to go easy on the motor.
I have my hood vents Open on my HR and away I go.
Got stuck once in 30 years.
6sp MT TJ pulling a trailer at high tide on a Sat. Didn't air down - I shoulda been shot for being a dumbass.
Aired down and got a little push and away I went.
