Problems with the hood on highway

Just wondering if anyone else is or has had this problem... I have an 08 JKU and when on the highway going between 50-up the hood trys to pop open. The hood latches seem to be allowing alot of movement.
Any fixes/solutions? Besides slowing down!

Very common problem. Word is the latches won't fail (plus there is the bonnet catch as a failsafe).
Look for Daystar hood wranglers on Quadratec - cheap replacement that looks completely stock.

Some people have reported removing the bonnet spring solves the problem.

There was a thread on here a while back maybe 6 weeks-couple posters showed picks of their TJs where the latches had finally failed.

My perspective it is rubber -it is going to wear out-replace it if it is moving around a lot.

I went with Kentrol black stainless as I am not crazy about the plastic hold downs either

Yeah it's called "hood flutter". The DayStar Hood Wranglers are a cheap and easy fix, as is cutting/removing the spring or binding it shorter with some zip ties.

I bought a 2011 rubicon in may and my hood latch already broke. I have really bad hood flutter. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. The dealer made it sound like its not a typical problem.

Great, now when I drive to OBX I am going to freak out thinking my hood will flop off and sear off my face. I had better go buy something else for this Jeep! LOL

Does anyone have an optional hood lock that still gets the flutter? Getting the Mopar hood lock when the 2012 ever gets here, and curious if I should expect the same after the rubbers wear out some.

Drake offroad stainless hood tiedowns from quadratec work great -- just be prepared to spend a hundred and twenty bucks

I carry duct tape and electrical tape and zip ties just in case. I will be buying replacement hood latches though. Seems like Chrysler would fix them since they seem to be a problem. It pretty scary when those rubber latches break at 75 miles per hour.

FREE!!! What I did... If/when it pops up, it's for a split second when I pass a big truck when we both are going over 50mph. But, does not "flutter".

Cheapest way is definitely to remove the spring. It takes 30 seconds and I haven't had a problem since.

Lifted from another forum... this is supposed to work...

Stop Hood Flutter....
Here's a cheap fix to stop hood flutter at highway speeds. Loop a zip tie around both latches. It's a lot cheaper than buying the DayStar replacement latches....

And a lot less appealing to the eye than removing the spring. Takes 2 hands to open hood with or without the spring anyways.
