Punk thieves in san diego

I walk out to my jeep yesterday morning and find my freedom hardtop of my jk wrangler gone. The punk thieves unhooked battery to disable factory alarm. Poked a hole thru key hole on passenger side door to get in car and remove the 3 PC clear coat black top along with my headliners and floor mats.

Anyone buying these somewhere for cheap better realize they are feeding these assholes.

Yah I was thinking of buying the hood locks before. Will definitely do that now. Not sure it will stop them but worth a shot.

It would definitely make it hard to get at the battery.

Look at it this way. It could have been worse. I bet that if you didn't have an alarm, your Jeep would have been gone too. I keep hearing about this problem in San Diego. They must really love Jeeps south of the border.

Did you have a pin switch on your hood?

I installed the Tuffy hood lock today. Nothing will stop a determined thief but maybe little things like hood locks will make them choose a different target.

The Tuffy is only $39 and is an easy install.

These do look nice. I would really start upgrading your security. It's a bad area for Jeeps in San Diego.

If they punched out the passenger door lock I'm sure the hood locks are no match for them.

What do you mean by punching through the keyhole? Punched the lock out?

MOPAR Hood Lock Kit - Codes to Factory Key - 82210464

This one codes to your factory key. I haven't tried it but the two reviews are good.

Yep, I've seen it on TV. They have tools that can punch out the door lock and the ignition switch. If you have no alarm, the car is gone in a heartbeat.

I have seen many ways of circumventing most alarm systems. But, I won't talk about them here. No sense in providing information that might be seen by thieves.

Such an unwieldy and bulky item to steal, seems really odd.

Unfortunately it'd fit easily in any pickup and would be a quick sell with no traceability

Wow, that sucks!

F***ing thieves.

What part of SD?

You live in a house, condo, apartment complex?
Was it parked on your driveway, on the street or in a lot?

I just picked up my new 2 dr hardtop Wrangler yesterday from Midway Jeep in Mission Valley and I'm installing the hood locks tomorrow.

My Jeep will sit in my car port (not a fully enclosed garage) with a cover on it at night but every little bit of security helps.

Yup, San Diego is notorious for Wranglers being stolen.

Even with a LoJack equipped vehicle they are usually across the border before the police are even notified because the border is only 20 minutes away from most parts of San Diego.

It is good locks but not too hard to brake for criminals, I would first park some safe place only. My Jeep is under video surveillance every night. If I go some place I will always find some paid parking garage or I don't go there.

Hood locks won't stop a determined thief but at least they're better than the rubber bands that the Jeep comes with from the factory. I bought the Rampage locks because I could bear to cut a hole in my $289 Metalcrafters grill insert.

Even though I live in the middle of nowhere, I installed a wireless alarm system with 3 sensors along my driveways years ago. I doubt that I have $200 in the system. One sensor is about 400 feet from the cabin, so the range is very good. I have also used the sensors on a path into the yard to let me know when mountain lions are around the cathouse...errrr...where my cats live. I know you can buy the wireless systems for less than $100...and you will know if anyone even approaches your jeep when parked at home.

Hey man, do the Rampage locks come with 2 sets of keys?

That sucks.
Regarding hood locks, the chances of theft (at least where I live) are pretty low and besides that what insurance is for. If someone is going to steal a hardtop, hood locks aren't going to stop them. Besides we drive are JEEp often without a top or doors--anyone can climb right in. So adding hood locks would seem to be pretty pointless.

Yes, but store the spare away wherever you put your spare Wrangler key.

You only need one key for both locks. Although you cannot remove the key when it is in the unlocked position, just turn it to the locked position after unlatching to open the hood, remove the key and do the other side.

You know what is sad , I bet another wrangler person stole your stuff for their jeep

This doesn't sound like a theft to sell , most people who don't own wrangler even know that it takes a star key and the floor mats being taken really makes it sound like another jeeper
