There were two things that bothered me about the Sahara model - the wheels and the silver section on the front and rear bumpers. I think the larger wheels with the shorter tread tires just didn't look right. Jeeps should have nice thick tires and the wheels overwhelmed the tires in my opinion. And the silver sections on the bumpers just look really out of place to me. Fat tires and black bumper look like what a Jeep should look like in my opinion.

So when I oredered mine I went with a Sport model with just about every option they offer on the Sahara. Now if you wanted leather seats and GPS you would have to go with the Sahara, but if you don't my pick would be Sport model and the one you have listed is nicely equipped.

Personally I would not even consider getting the 2008 model. I just think you'll wind up regretting not getting the new more powerful engine.

No one can answer this thread without knowing the answers to a whole list of questions.
How will the Jeep be used?
It it your only vehicle? Your DD?
How important are the missing options?
WHAT are the missing options?
How much does price play into your decision?
If you are willing to look at a 2008, are you willing to look at a 2011?

2 door or 4 door?
Stick or Auto?

If you are getting a two door stick, I would look at a 2011 (as long as it does not have 3.21's). If you want an auto 4 door, and you don't need all of the stuff the Sahara has, I would go with the 2012 Sport.

Buying a used Wrangler would scare me...you never know what the PO did.

Lol. sorry

Again. It all depends. Was the jeep regeared?
Stock axle ratio?

No, not with a manual trans and stock tires. BUT . . . you're looking at an auto trans and heavy 33s. Assuming it hasn't been done already, count on $1500 to regear to get some zip into it. Then $150 to $350 for a tuner.

That'd make it snappier than it ever was in its stock form and you would probably be happy. Lots of guys around here with regeared pre-2012 autos on 33s who are very happy. If however that's still not enough for you, you'd need to invest another $1500 for headers to really hit the 2012 performance levels.

Yeah, top speed is 25 mph, IF you go downhill and have a stiff tailwind.

Knock on wood...

I'd be pretty nervous with a used Wrangler.
You could get a total mall crawler that is in perfect shape....or you could get a Wrangler that some one beat the hell out of while doing a bunch of half-assed mods.

For some reason...I would be less nervous with a 4 door. Probably because of the "soccer mom" factor.

On a side note:
When I purchased my Libby (used), I thought the transfer case was broke. It had been so long since the thing had been in other other selection outside of 2H, it was almost frozen into place.

I purchased it right away.

I have the same questions as you. I think I will be ordering the sport s with options. the only thing I would like from the Sahara would be the better suspension. but I guess I could upgrade down the line.
