Just my two cents, I was in the same market, and wound up buying a 2010 sport s package with some options. Way better than the sahara IMO. It seems like the dealers tend to overprice the sahara for the package itself. I even had a few dealers tell me, "well that's because it's the sahara" in reference to it being thousands more than the sports with similar options. I have 17 in wheels, tow package/3.73 gears power options, cruise, and a few other options that the sahara brings. I believe (though I may be wrong on this) the only options the sahara would offer me at that point were the subwoofer and the painted fender flares.
As far as the difference between the years, I'm not entirely certain. I noticed a few trim pieces and the front and rear bumpers were different (2007-2010), but the major changes (motor and interior) were in 2011-2012 I believe.
Im not 100% but for the Sahara's I believe they have a softer suspension, power doors and windows, premium sound system, some have larger wheels, cruise control, etc. etc.. Basically they have all the bells and whistles aimed at comfort. Worth a couple grand extra? Well, that's up to driver. The Sport S package with a few options is a great value for the price. I personally have an 07' Sahara and love the power windows and door locks, I would go for that option whichever model you get. One thing to avoid with the Sahara's I found, tire options are very limited for the 18" wheels. Find a JK with 17's, you'll have much more tire options down the road.
Get what you like, but between a 7 and 10 the 2010 is documented as the most reliable JK. The other years are fine just that by 2010, with the 3.8 and older style interior, Chrysler pretty much worked the bugs out. If you want more power options the Sahara is a good choice.
Good responses so far. Unless you need something only a Sahara offers (e.g. painted fenders), a similarly equipped Sport will be cheaper. The Sahara shocks are softer, but takeoffs are cheap <$100 for all 4.
I faced the same decision- 2010 pristine blue Sahara w/30k miles for $26000 or a 2008 Unlimited with 110K miles and a bad engine for $9000. I bought the '08, put in a new engine and am building it my way. Its not my daily driver so I have more leeway on timing which has led to some good savings on Craigslist for parts and mods. The 2010 was a beauty, though and ready to go. I did feel that for a few grand more than the 2010 I could find a gently used 2012 with the 3.6 engine and be better off.
Yes this would be a primary car so I'm in love with the 2010 and have come across some 07 08 09 all pretty low miles under 50k but the prices of the older models are more friendly haha since I haven't Bourne a jeep before the prices for older vehicles alarms me but I guess it makes sense since they retain value so well.
Just wanted to weigh to pros and cons of old vs newer
How long have you been looking? Spend a few months browsing so you can get a good idea of an out the door price on used Wranglers. The doc fees can vary wildly and make a cheap Jeep way more expensive than an average priced one w/o the doc fees.
Yea I have been looking for a almost a month getting a better idea of that. Ideally just want one that will last iv had trouble w another car ( not jeep ) that I bought used so just want to be positive it's good condition
So basically 07- 10 are the same just little details within the interior are different ?
