Purpose of Jku fuel door?

I have a 2012 jku, and I like the look of the mopar fuel door. I've never seen one in person. CNN anyone tell me if it provides any purpose other than looking good?

Thanks, Dan

I suppose it could keep mud and debris away from the filler cap.

I think they keep the fuel cap out of sight so less likely some jerk won't just walk by and steal your gas cap (out of sight out of mind), they also keep snow and ice from building up and they do look good.

It does nothing....doesn't lock... Yeah, it keeps dirt out of the well area of the filler cap, but who cares? If the well is full of dirt and crud, it's not as though it can get inside the gas tank??

More for looks than anything.
I have one and it's surprising how much mud and dust accumulates behind it.

A lot of people get as a simple and easy warm-up mod before the real spending begins

He wrote "it hides your locking gas cap."

One can get a locking fuel door, a locking gas cap, or both Is it even possible to siphon gas out of it, or are they worried about something malicious being put in?

Pretty much this and just for looks. I don't care for the gaping hole without it.

Why not? . Paid $87.50 delivered new on eBay. Installation wasn't too bad unless you have gorilla hands.

My gorilla hands were barely able to get behind the taillight to release the clips. Still a very easy, quick mod.

Yeah, it was a little tough getting to the clips. I could only get to the two and worked the other two out. But I agree, quick, easy and relatively cheap.

Looks good and keeps snow off my locking gas cap (if I had a locking gas cap).

Looks good though.

Serves no "real" purpose....

But it looks good (makes the Jeep look finished), may keep mud or snow out, and covers the gas cap (out of sight out of mind).

Only slightly more useful than tail-lamp guards.

^ LOL at "gateway" mod. That may be true. It was one of my first mods.

I did it for looks mostly. I don't like the hole in the side of the Jeep. I like the more finished look of the cover. The fact that it keeps debris out is a bonus for me.

I'll side with the gateway mod folks on this one.

Looks good (if you are into it) inexpensive as mods go and an easy one to do.

I would say the gas cap door is useful at costing you extra money and adding an extra step to getting gas - in other words totally useless.

I was able to get .2mpg boost due to improved aerodynamics.

I kid... I don't have one yet.

I gives you a place to hang your gas cap while refueling.

I decided against one. Everyone else has a cover. An exposed gas cap...that's a Jeep thing

In Iowa we see our fair share of freezing rain, and sleet, so I was concerned about the ice and snow getting packed into the cavity and not allowing me to get the fuel cap off. Without major effort, anyways. That same mentality is why I didn't get a locking one, it wouldn't do me any good if the lock was froze up.

Gas Cap Cover

Keeps dirt away from the gas cap. Locking one will keep someone from stealing your gas.

1. It looks good. To me - it looks better then one with locking door.
2. Keeps the snow and ice from getting to my locking cap.
3. Keeps my lock on the cap free of freezing.
4. Cheap mod.
5. Monkey could do it (if I did it, anyone could).
