Putting 35s on my Jeep......

So I got some new Trail Grapplers 35x12.5 17R and am going to put a JK Wrangler 3.5" Series II Suspension by Rough Country with the stock bumpers for now.. I'm not looking to do serious off-roading just yet but I do plan to hit the trails here in South Florida. What else do I need to do to? Is that lift good? I've read that Rough Country used to be horrible but they upgraded so now they're pretty good? I'm really new to this and I'm just looking for some tips and pointers from all you more experienced Jeepers! Thanks everyone!

Stock or aftermarket steering stabilizer? If stock you should upgrade to aftermarket to handle the bigger tires.

From what I understand my wrangler has a 3.21 gear? What would I need to re-gear to? And Why?
Just some mud and forest trails. No crazy rock trails! What's a good aftermarket company?
Man this is some intense stuff...

The stabilizer I purchased was Skyjacker but I hear that they are all pretty much the same. Make sure that you purchase one specifically for the wranglers because they will have all the bolts you need for replacement in the box. I purchased mine from Qauadratec for about $55

Simply by mounting the 35's you have "regeared" your Jeep. In the wrong direction. Surely you must hate the loss in power & the uselessness of your highest gear and the fact that it is now impossible to crawl over obstacles.

Re gearing like the above poster said will make your jeep act more like it did stock, only better. 3.21's are a joke in my opinion. I hated mine even with 32 inch tires. Can't imagine running them with 35's.

Find a fellow WF member that is running 35's & lower gears & drive it. Then you will appreciate the proper gearing. I went with 5.13's. Perfection.

Jeep really should have offered the Unlimited with a bigger motor. They weigh more than the 2 doors. Once the 4 doors are lifted, locked & geared they are sooooo cool. I never thought I'd say that about a 4 door jeep, but I'm saying it now. That extra wheelbase works for you in many situations. Plus you take out the back seat & you have a nice camping rig.

You may consider locking at least the rear when you do your gears. Doing it at the same time cuts way down on the labor costs.
Do you have an auto or hand shaker? I think guys get by with the 6 speed a little easier w/o regearing right away. I'd at least save your stock wheels & tires until you do the regear. You might find it nice to put them back on for certain situations??

5:13's for the trail yes. 4:10's might be better all around.

It's not a manual but I think I'm going to go with the 88s because I've heard the 10s aren't enough to move with the 35 tires. I just hope I have enough clearance with the front bumper..

Just took my Jeep on it's first good road trip since the 35's & 5.13's were installed. We drove 660 miles on the innerstate. Learned so much on this trip. First off, from Western Colorado to St George Utah (330 miles) I only grabbed 5th gear twice. On the way home I didn't have to down shif a single time. Hooorayyy!!! With the 3.21's I was shifting like crazy on this trip.

Secondly, I set the cruise @ 2800 RPMS. My speed was 69 MPH, GPS calculated. (speedometer is off 5 mph in 5th & 6th gears. It's off 3 mph in 1st -4th. It shows slower than I'm actually moving. I am very happy driving this thing at 69 MPH. The motor purrs, MPG's are good, and the rearend ran cool. 164 degrees after the first 2 hours, 177 upon reaching my destination. The front didn't exceed 64 degrees the entire trip. If you want to drive faster & shift more on hills then 4.88's would be a better choice, however, off road you're not going to like the 4.88's near as much as the 5.13's unless you put in a Rubi transfer case.

As far as the 4.10's go, our local 4x4 shop pulls them out of rubi's every week. Many are happy with the 4.10's, but many of those boys want the lower gears.

5.13 is an extremly low gearing... If ur rig is a daliy drive too i wouldnt go ne lower the 4.88s ull still get ok mpg and have more than enough torque i run 35" dunlops with stock gear right now and im gettin bout 11mpg and a LOT less torque but 4.88 is wat ill b going with very soon... I also would reccomned goin with the rough country 4" thats wat i run and i still have some rubbin but only on "sharp turns" lol btw hope u have more luck out of the nittos then i did i didnt even get 20k miles out of em and they were bald... Good luck to u and post pics of ur rig when u put the tires on... O and a rim with good backspacing or wheel spacers will deff help prevent rubbin

The rim I'm looking at has 4.75 backspacing so I hope that's good. But yeah man I will def post pictures! Thanks!

Dude, If you don't want to put an aftermarket bumper on, just "Chop" off the ends of your stocker. It's easy & gives you all kinds of clearance & it doesn't look gay anymore. Win win situation.
