Q: Most inexpensive way to get 37's on a stock 2012 Rubicon 2dr 4.10 Auto JK DD

No stupid questions right?

Looking for inexpensive, not cheap. I don't want anything to fall apart on me, cause other issues or decrease performance.

So far the most informative and enjoyable information I've found was planman's write up on 37's... but I'm a noob here, with a specific question after pouring over dozens of similar threads on multiple forums.

I'm buying a 2012 Rubicon 2dr 4.10 Auto and adding a front bumper mounted winch. I want to stay as stock/inexpensive as possible. I know it's a capable vehicle out ofthe box, but I want to have 37" tires +1 mounted spare. This is going to be my DD with mixed hwy/road use. I will be going on Florida and Georgia trails twice monthly, not much rock crawling. But I don't want to lose any ability to rock crawl. One of the main reasons for wanting a Jeep is to make it easier to get to relief work post hurricane/disaster. That will be a rare event, but still, I want something that works but also affordable on a public servant's salary.

I'm planning on making cuts to the stock rocker guard, front bumper and flares.

I'm thinking a Custom Hummer Wheel and Tire combo from Trail Worthy Fab, I like the quality and price. I wish there was some way to mount these without lifting...

I wish I didn't have to lift for this to work, just because I don't want any warranty issues, but 37's will probably be all it takes to void part of the warranty anyhow.. I was looking at Rough Country, but some say that using Rubicon Express may give you a bit less trouble warranty wise.

What lift kits would you all recommend with the 37' Hummer wheels, considering the weight of the front bumper winch and rear spare tire? Maybe I should wait for 2013, my cousins uncles brothers monkey says that 37's will be standard with the 2013 Rubicon 10th Anniversary Cummins diesel model. I'm such a noob, I'm very much expecting to get flamed and reprimanded sternly, I'm not feeling like my brain is understanding anything about Jeep's. Time for a , maybe I'll just stay stock and buy some stickers.

Sorry to be blunt but there is none. I went stock to 35's and need new gears brake lines extend air hoses wheel spacers mud flaps now and many other things so to answer yu question it cant be done cheap.

Yea sorry man but 37's, inexpensive, and dd with mixed hwy road use, and 37's to just go on trails twice a month? None of that adds up at all.
What would make the most sense is after you buy the jeep just drive it. Drive it around town and on the highway to get a feel for it on the road as it is STOCK. Then take it on the trails as is STOCK a few times. That way you will actually see and feel just how capable it is stock and see what you might need to upgrade to get where your trying to go.

Thanks for your input.

I've been stuck in Florida after hurricane's many times unable to get out or into an area(relief work). I have a feeling the Rubicon is enough truck, but I am hoping that someone has done this type of project or knows how to do it and how much it will cost( a minimum cost to build it safely and right).

You will need gears, a 3" lift and chop your fenders, sleeve and gusset or truss and gusset your axles. If you keep it to a 3" lift you might not need driveshafts or extended brake lines.

If this is your DD tho your gas mileage will suck. Most people with 37's get about 10-14 mpg. 33's or 35's might be a better idea if you are looking cheap

You should probably not buy a Rubicon, but that's just my opinion anyone who is planning to modify their jeep is probably wasting money on Rubi extras that they'll wind up removing... (the lockers in a Rubi might be worth the expense though...)

I would look at a 2" lift, 35" tires, and chop your fenders.

37" tires require enough lift that you'll start running into problems... steering, driveshafts, brakes, etc. You don't sound like the type that would want to get into all that, and you absolutely don't want to get into it with a DD. Running a 37" spare would also require a new rear bumper...

You can get away with 35" tires with 2" of lift if you cut your fenders. You'll keep the center of gravity low (better street manners), the gas mileage decent, and overall, you'll have 1" less clearance at the diffs than you would with 37" tires, with MUCH less hassle.

overall, the difference between 35 and 37 will save you a ton of hassle and money, and if you go with a sport instead of a rubi, and add lockers to your mod list, you'll save even more and won't really lose out on any capability, since you'll be changing out most of the Rubi options anyway...

i have so many questions.... lets start with an easy one. why don't you consider 35's to start? or 33's to start? i'm not being a smart ass. but i'd bet i can go anywhere you go on 37s with 35s, maybe even 33s with some good armor.

i mean you're going to spend a ton... A TON to get your rig ready for 37s.. and your gas mileage, at oh... $4++ a gallon soon, is really going to piss you off. it'd piss me off. i love my JK and i drive it everywhere... and it pisses me off everytime i fill it up. i'd like to give those jackasses in washington the big

anyways... it sounds like you want 37s because you saw a hummer with 37s. hummers are garbage. a stock JK will do more than a hummer.. just sayin. take some time to consider why you want 37s. i live in Tampa. have lived in Florida through all of the major hurricanes in the past decade.. and 35s would have gotten me anywhere. in fact on my F150... they did.

I lived in Lutz in the 80's, and was actually living on a boat in Key Largo when Andrew came through... that was more than enough to wash the sand out of my toes, so I'll be retiring in Idaho

Wow, the antagonists are out in force on this one. I am running an '07 JKU. 3.5" Rubicon Express lift and 37's. Gearing is stock w/ tow package, 4.10s. I treat it like the auburn haired step kid. I went with adjustable trac bars front and rear. Added extended bumpstops on the rear to curea little rubbing when the rear wheel was stuffed. It is doing anything asked of it. I am in with the older generation, so no ramping or climbing rock walls. Everything else though, I am there. Friends shoot videos and put them on youtube. If my wife is behind the wheel, I uncover the' Don't follow me, you won't make it' sign on the rear bumper.

I have sleeves, gussets, 5.13's chromoloy axles and ARBs to put in when I slow down...currently scheduled for Spring 2020.

I would listen and only use the advice from people who are in your situation.

2door with 37s 2" old man emu hd kit, automatic tranny no sleeves or gussets 373 gearing for 1 year no problems or issues.



Just be ready for a whole shit load of trimming.

Front and rear bumpers, fenders, pinch seam, rubicon rail...

As far as budget goes. You can spend under 2 grand on a very decent/budget system under 3" and clear 37" tires. Don't go with 35s unless you want to regret it later.

Thanks for the info.

The Rubicon Express 3.5" looks good, I was thinking about going with the 2.5"(probably with Metal Cloak's) just because I've heard that when you exceed 3" they are more likely to void your warranty. But I think with the winch in the front and the spare on the rear bumper, it will probably drop the 3.5" down to 3" anyhow.

Thanks for your input. Glad to see someone pull this off with minimum money and no problems.

I don't mind trimming. I'd like to spend some time working on the Jeep.

I don't like spending money twice. I would regret it and I would upgrade to 37"s later. As far as I'm concerned, it's 37" or stay stock.

Your warranty can't be voided. Your aftermarket parts will not be covered. For everything else Chrysler would have to prove that the parts you added directly caused any failure.

I disagree.

I'd say don't lift it and put on larger tires and don't use your jeep for off road if you care about the hint of warranty. Jeep Chrysler will find a way to void it just like a police officer will find an excuse to pull you over.

Metal Cloak Fenders will get ya what you need with no lift... you might wind up having to add spacers, or better yet a terraflex coil spring leveling kit to keep the front from sagging under the weight of a bumper and winch.

Also, a truss and gusset, and chomolly shafts in at least the front would be a good idea with the weight of the TWF 37's. Regear would help, but it would be livable , especially in FL since its so flat.

I'm currently on 40's in a 2011 6spd manual and its bearable to drive, though I will regear soon (I've been saying that for a while now). With the 2012 auto gearing being similar to the 2011 6spd, plus you have 85 more hp, you should be fine. Though you may want to run 4.88's down the line.

The least expensive/stock way?...

Teraflex 2.5" budget boost with new shocks.
Cheap 1" body lift.
The mindset to trim whatever needs to be trimmed on a brand new vehicle.

That will give you enough lift to clear without removing any of the Rubicon suspension besides the shocks.
