Quadratec Winch Problem (2nd One)

I bought a Quadratec winch for my Jeep a few months ago. It was one of their 9500# versions. After installation, I noticed that it wouldnt wind up without making a loud squeeling noise. I thought that maybe it was because it was new. A few weeks ago, I tried to use it and it acted like it was locked up. I had to wind it back up by rotating the drum with my hand in freespool.

After calling QT, they replaced my winch with another. Install again was a pain in the ass, but I finally got it. This winch only works sparaticly. I used it to put tension on a wire fence, and while pulling the fence line tight, it was cutting on and off (like 3 second bursts). The problem happened on and off all day. I checked the remote plug and it seems like its tight and making connection.

Before I call QT and ask for a replacement AGAIN, has anyone else had any problems with their QT winch? I dont want another if this keeps happening. Im tired of installing and removing winches.

I personally would not go for a third replacement. Get your money back and order a different winch.

X2. The Chinese have not mastered the art of building good winches.

LOL Seriously though, the Chinese supposedly invented paper, yet you ever notice the flimisiness of their cardboard compared to ours?

I'm Vietnamese and my wife's Chinese, I blame her for all the inferior products in USA.

I say go with a different winch company. I had 3 Iphones before I switched to a different phone and I'm glad i did

Be dam happy you found this out now and not when your wheeling somewhere alone and get stuck only to find out your cheap Chinese winch won't work or get you out. Old adage you get what you pay for.
Are you going to have them send you another one maybe 1 out of 3 work for awhile. My m8000 on my pickup is 10 years old and it's been used hundreds of times it's like the energizer bunny just keeps going and going that why I bought another m8000 for my jeep. Good luck with that winch I think you'll need luck.

I stated looking at winches and could not believe how cheap some of the 8000-9500 lbs were including quadratec guess I know why...they don't work full time lol.
I think when I get a winch it will be a Warn.

Don't forget that the "competitively priced" Warns are also manufactured in Asia; just stating fact...not trying to bust anyone's chops.

I have a Quadratec Q9500i and I've had no issues with it. I pulled out some trees this past weekend and it worked like a charm.

I used it again today to pull out my daughter who was stuck in mud and it worked like a charm.

I'd say you just got a bad winch. The good thing about the Quadratec winches is that they have a lifetime mechanical warranty so it'll be covered for life.

Cut your losses, try another brand. Maybe USA made would work better. Old saying you get what you pay for.

Key word here is "mechanical". Does the warranty cover electrical like the winch motor?

Electrical is one year which is industry standard. Most othet companies are 2 years mechanical not lifetime so they really stand behind their product.

Mine is only about a month old so I'll have to see how it holds up.

Absolutely not true, none of Warn's Jeep size (6K lb. capacity and larger) winches are manufactured in Asia. Not their previous Tabor series, and not their current VR series either. Their small ATV size winches are made in China but the 6K lb. and larger winches we use on our Jeeps are all manufacturered in Oregon. They do have a small percentage of imported parts but the majority of the 6K lb. and larger winches are manufactured, not just simply assembled, in Oregon.

I have a Q9000 on my Sahara and haven't had a problem with it. Pulled a +20 ft tree out of the road after Sandy, pulled myself and another guy out of some pits on a few occasions without a problem. Sorry to hear about the bad luck :/

If people cared about where things were made before they bought them, they would not have these problems. Buy stuff made in USA! There is no guarantee, but you typically get what you pay for.

I'm all for "buy in the USA", I'm retired military. But honestly you might be the only one so far I've read about having problems with the Q-tec winches. Seem a good value to me. I'm not sure I want to drop upwards of $1000 on a winch...

I've had a Warn 9000 pound winch for over 10 years. It's been exposed to the elements most of that time. It went for a couple of years without being used at all. I swapped it over onto my new JK and it still works flawlessly. I haven't had to do a single thing to it.

Investing good money in a good winch will pay off in the long run.

I called QT today and talked to Dave. He was very cool and helpful.
He told me that the problem could be in the remote. I have a buddy that has a winch like mine (that works fine) that will let me borrow his remote to see if that helps. Ill keep you guys informed.

Received my Superwinch Tiger Shark 9500 the other day. Still waiting on the Smittybilt 2804 mounting plate.

I'll do an install review once I get it all hooked up.

I wouldnt want a 3rd Q tec winch either. Get a resonably priced Recon or Engo.

I dunno why some people persist in thinking all of Warn's winches are in the $1000 or higher neighborhood. Warn's M8000 is regularly under $600 and their new VR series start at under $500.

Under $600 for an M8000 would be great, where have you seen that? I've been looking for one for a little while and I'm only seeing $640+

Am I missing a rebate somewhere?

They go on sale for that on a fairly regular basis. Go to Google, then go to Google's shopping section, then do a search for the Warn M8000 & do a sort based on pricing.
