Quadratop Adventure Top S reviews anyone?

Does anyone have the Quadratop Adventure Top S for a JKU? If so what are your opinions? I saw it in the new Qtec catalog. I've been thinking about a fastback soft top. This looked like it might fit the bill, but I'd like to know what current owners think before I go for it.

Or if Qtec just wants to send me one, that'd be great also.

I saw it the other day as well, but it doesn't look like it has shipped yet, so you'd have to get someone who got one early to get a review I'd guess.

After doing some research on it, I found the instructions call for removing the footman loops on the windshield frame and replacing them with latches, which would make swapping between this top and basically any other top a pain. I decided to grab a trektop NX while I could still get one at the old price.

Many thanks to StampedingTurtle for the comment about the footman loops. Saved me from a painful surprise. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Quadratop Adventure top, but I can't (or rather won't) remove the footman loops. I have my CB mounted to the center one.

The top looks just like the trektop just with a different folding mechanism for the sunrider top. Seems they are trying to find a solution to the trektop for the JKU and the top flapping and bulging up while driving. Simple fix with some bungie cords once you open your top

I talked to a rep from qtech a bit ago and started a thread similar to this.
Shipment wasnt for a few more weeks at least and indeed there are some "quirky" issues with install.
Read the installation manual.
Its odd.
As well as the loops it looks as if assembly is required for the door surrounds.
I am going bestop as well.

Holy hell, did anyone download and go through those instructions? Looks like a nightmare, you're basically building the whole thing from tons of parts. Assembling the door surrounds (357 separate parts lol), the fabric to the header, those wacky plates and contraption over the roll bar, the weird tailgate seal and clips, the top attaches to the outsides of the door surrounds with velcro?! The worst part is you have to unbolt your footman loops for the latch system?! I use those loops for the hard top in the winter.

If you want the fast back top get the Trektop NX. I got a great deal on mine last year. I know they went up in price but I'm sure there's some good deals out there.

Hey all,

The installation of the Quadratop Adventure Top S is comparable to any other full replacement soft tops that we offer. It's an easy installation if you are good with basic hand tools.

Only the 2 outer footman loops are being replaced. The center footman loop remains in place. Removal of the footman loops requires unbolting 2 torx bolts per footman loop. Very simple, shown here:

The velcro on the door surrounds is used to provide an additional means of sealing the top and making for a tighter fit. The front of the top can easily be flipped open or closed with 1 hand once you separate the velcro sides of the top (Just takes a few seconds).

Here's a great video detailing the top:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJ1MZ-L_UR8

There are 41 different parts that we include for installation. We break down each, individual part in the installation instructions to help with any future replacement if needed.

To help make the installation as smooth as possible we provide very detailed instructions, in color, here:

https://www.quadratec.com/Assets/Installation/242648.pdf

As you can see, the installation is easy. The final result is a unique, great quality, affordable top:

If anyone has any specific questions please let me know :) For a discounted quote, please PM me with your first & last name, address, zip and the part number(s) you would like to order. I'll PM you back with the quote.

Thanks so much & have a great weekend!

41 parts....

My trektop NX (2 door) came with 17 parts. (Top& header preassembled, 3 windows, tailgate bar, 2 tailgate bar clips, 2 door surrounds, 4 door surround knobs, rear support bar, front arch bar, 2 brackets to guide the cables. I don't think I've forgotten anything.

Some quadratec products seem like winners but this one is too close to obviously better competition to be worthwhile.

The velcro on the door surrounds is the worst part. I can't think of a worse design or cop out to seal everything. Velcro likes to reattach easily I can see going back and forth trying to get both sides un-velcroed at the same time trying to put the top back lmao!

I've personally used this top and have seen the install. It's really a simple install and a great top. The velcro is now the main seal along the door surrounds. It is a secondary means of sealing the top. If the top is flipped open, then closed you can still open it up again with just 1 hand. The only time this is a bit difficult is if you push along the velcro for additional grip. At that point you then want to separate the velcro again to flip open the top.

Trektop NX, JKU - $799.99
Quadratop Adventure Top S, JKU - $699.99

Both tops take 1-2 hours to install. Both are great tops.

Hope you have a great weekend!

I am looking forward to getting this top I ordered my last week. It is replacing a flawless premium 13 soft top which is nice but hey this will look so much better and the functionality will be much improved . When I have it in the Bimini version I can you my bed cover and windstopper?

#15 ·
With the trektop you can use a windstopper and tonneau cover but i can't say for sure on this top. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
That's correct, when it's setup in the Bikini style you can use your Windjammer/Windstopper and Deck Cover/Tonno.

Thanks!

Ok,
With all due respect- that installation looks anything from easy.
I can definitely speak from experience in watching this install that installation is easy if you can use basic hand tools.

Thanks,

Rick,
Im an idiot by nature
Ill give you the benefit of the doubt.
When will these be shipping as i am in the market for this or the bestop nx and am looking to install within 2 weeks..

Is it really not difficult to install? Also the removal of the loops----I use the hard top in the winter---reinstall difficult after putting your clamp on?

Hey there,

Sent you a response to your PM. If you're good with basic hand tools and following instructions in the right order you're definitely capable of installing this top!

The only footman loops being replaces are the two outbound loops. There are 2 torx bolts on each footman loop. Removal of the footman loop and installation of the new latch should only take a couple minutes max. Reinstallation of the factory footman loops is also only a couple minutes as well.

Thanks!

I just spoke with our video department. We should be filming within the next 2 weeks. It should be edited and live towards early to mid-June if I had to take a guess.

Thanks!

Bit the bullet today. Went with the Bestop Trektop NX today.
Props to Rick tho for helping me thru it.
Ordered from Q tech so they did get a sale ;)
Ill keep those who want to hear how good (or badly) the install goes and of course pictures!

You're welcome! Happy to assist. Thanks so much for your order! We do appreciate it.

You have a great evening!

I'm interested in the 2-door version, standard model. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't look as if it's intended to be a fully convertible top. Just bikini style with the windows out. I didn't see anywhere in the instructions about putting it down or back up, so does that mean a (basically) full reversal of the install instructions, at least when it comes to the fabric?

That is correct. All of the "fastback" style tops from Bestop, Quadratop, Smittybilt, Rampage are like that. No fastback tops fully fold down like a regular, full bow assembly soft top.

Thanks!

I went to order a Trektop NX for my 2-door and noticed that the price had gone up $70 from the catalog. I ended up buying it on amazon instead where it was, and is still, $660. They are still doing the $50 rebate too.

The Trektop is great. The instructions were good, and it went on well. I'm very happy with it. I can't see going with an unproven top to save $10 and get an extra year of warranty. It sounds like the installation on the Adventure Top is much more involved as well.

Now if it would stop raining so I can take my windows out.

Also interested in this as I'm a hardtop owner looking for a soft top option in the summer, in the market for the trektop nx.

Adventure Top S review

I purchased and installed the Adventure Top S a couple weeks ago on my 14 JKUR.

Pros:
- Looks great
- Sunroof feature is cool and easy to put up/take down (much less bulky than the factory Sunrider and you can do it from the driver's seat)
- Decent price

Cons:
- Sunroof becomes a self-deploying sail at 48 mph. Quadratec says its because I have a hood deflector. They say it wont happen if I remove the deflector (haven't tried that yet) but it would've been nice to know up front since I like my hood deflector and don't really want to lose it.
- Install is a pain. Lots of parts, instructions could use some work (took more like 4-5 hours rather than 1-2. Obviously now that I understand the install it would go faster but that's always the case)
- Odd engineering: use of snaps (difficult to snap - maybe heatgun the top a bit to stretch it better. I used pliers=not fun), non-sensical footman's loop replacement, back window useless bc its a total pain to open, weird slip-in plastic bolsters in the corners, no-way to roll-up the side window panels so they can only be stored completely flat if removed (so you wont be carrying them on your rig).

Verdict: I want to love it, it just has so many issues (reminds me of my ex).

Feel free to pm me if you want some install tips

Very interesting review.
Your points on the cons are EXACTLY why I purchased the Trektop nx
I knew that I would struggle with installation of the Q top and the back window issue is news.

While i am sure that q tec will iron out any wrinkles in their product - Im thrilled that I made the purchase that i did!

Not well thought out!

I have to agree with Jon!!!!
Installed Tuesday on my day off, Wednesday my wife tried it out on her way home from work and I thought she was in a car accident while on the speaker phone with her when the wind caught her top! I went back thinking I missed something and found others having the same issue.

Kind of really disappointed.
1. promised end of May delivery -> didn't get until June 30th
2. instructions were vague and the pictures were so zoomed in, had trouble trying to tell what parts were what.
3. rear window install was a nightmare. I don't see this ever coming off quick for a cruise. It is easier to take the hard top on and off than hassle with the (3) piece rear window configuration.

I agree the top should be recalled! She was fortunate it didn't cause her to lose control from the shock or take off unto the windshield of the car behind her!

What a mess. I've had an order in since may. Still not here. Hearing about all the issues... Not great. May cancel my order

Looking at how this top folds back it creates a pocket to trap air...the way the trektop flips back over itself does not leave a pocket like that. I've never had that issue in my 2 door with a trektop. Trektop also has an easier install and its had several revisions since it's been out for awhile. If you have a quadratop on order I would recommend canceling it and get a trektop NX, which should be in stock.
