Quality Shocks

How good are new stock rubi shocks? I have a new JKUR that I'm looking to lift with a 2.5" Teraflex coil kit (4Wheel Parts really wants me to buy Procomp). Anyway, I'm mulling over whether I should use shock extensions for the factory shocks, buy a kit that includes shocks or shell out the bucks for some quality shocks. I would very much like to hear some honest opinions.

I have the exact same kit, like many others on here, and went with Bilstien 5100's. Excellent IMO. A little stiffer than Rubi's, so I hear, but great response.

Rancho 9000's have a good reputation on here also. They are 9 way adjustable and I think they are having some rebates on them now.

What do you want to spend per corner? What is your driving pattern 90% road 10% off-road?
Do you want a firm responsive ride?
Do you want a soft cushy ride?
That helps out in your hunt.

All the above! But I want it for free. Any chance of that? What options do I have? Prolly under $100/corner.

i just got the skyjacker m95 shocks, i also have the TF 2.5 lift..... I didnt want to have to remember to adjust the rancho 9000s and wanted something other then bilstein.... love the m95 shocks so far, great purchase, they're about 75 a piece but theres a rebate

X2 on the M95 Skyjacker Shocks. I had read that other owners found the Blistein Shocks a bit too stiff for longer driving/commuting. And that users found the M95s to be a bit easier to deal with on a daily basis. Using that information, I paired the M95s with a 2" set of coils.....and I really like the results. I run 285/70-r17 tires with this setup...and I am very happy. Much of the opinions are subjective, and that is part of what makes the choices difficult, but the M95s are a nice moderately priced alternative.

TF 2.5 spring lift and RS900S here.You can get the Ranchos for under $300 with the rebate and you cant beat them with a stick. You dont have to remember to change them. I set mine different for off road and highway trips but have run them on same settings without issue. If you dont want to change them you can set them in the middle and they are great but the best part about them is the ability to make them how you want. Any other shock if its too stiff or too soft for what you are doing and load you have you are stuck with that.

If I start with a 2.5" coil lift and switch to 3.5" springs down the road, will any of these shocks still work? Or will I have to replace them with a longer shock?

I have the TF 2.5 coil lift with the TF 9550 shocks and the ride is really nice, I dont regret my purchase at all.

Typically people run a 4"-6" shock with 2.5" of lift for down travel. So switching over to 3.5" coils, the same shocks will work.

I apologize but a little off topic... What is the opinion on replacing shocks with no lift to get a more comfortable ride? Are any shocks going to deliver a more comfy ride than the stock ones?

The term comfy is subjective. Some brands of shocks may soak up road hazards better than stock. Some shocks may do a better job of controlling body roll and nose dive than stock.

Thats the nice thing about the Ranchos 9000s .Everyone has different opinion of whats harsh and whats too soft. With the Ranchos you can set them to your liking. Im sure they would improve a stock JK as the factory sport shocks are junk imop.
