Question about rims and tires

I have a 2011 Wrangler Sport. I bought it used with 16 inch rims and want bigger rims... I'm wanting to put black rims on it. What size tires should I get without having to get a lift? I want bigger tires, but I don't want to go overboard.

Welcome to WF. Here's a thread you might find useful.

Personally, I would stick with 15" or 16" wheels. Would be cheaper than going with a larger wheel and will allow for more tire sidewall.

On edit: looks like Mike beat me to it.

I have the same rig...Before i got it lifted i had 285/75/16 Duratracs (a little smaller than a 33) and i could only get them to rub when flexed pretty hard...I stayed with the 16 inch wheel because i want as much rubber as possible between my wheel and the rock, dirt, mud, etc...I would have actually went with a 15 inch wheel if they had made it in my type of wheel.

This is the same size tire except in a Falken Rocky Mountain. This is with a 2" lift in the front and fully flexed. Let's just say there was some fender munching going on.

When I first started my mods, I bought a standard sport with stock 16" steelies.

Found Rubicon Take offs from Craigslist for $450 for all 5 brand new. This is not an uncommon deal in my area.

Sold my stock tires and wheels for $350 on craigslist

Went from this:

to this:

Uhhhhhh, struggling.

To these beautiful rubicon wheels and tires...

all the way to this.....
